Read Access 2013 by Nelson Wallace @ 2/3/2019
I think I am almost passed my use by date when it comes to learning but I am enjoying the challenge. I have come to a standstill while developing a program to keep track of my dividends on a financial year basis to tax purposes. By the way I am in Aus so we use En date format not US.
The problem is although I have the ticker code as the first field. And the date field has a Between Field. Both fields are sorted alphabetically. When the query is run the first column (ticker) does not sort but the date field works fine sorting and selecting. The only reason I can see for this is that the ticker field is a key field in the CompanyNameT. Can anyone advise how to overcome this?

Simply go to the macro builder of the macro you want copy; "Ctrl+A", "Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+X to cut); Exit; Go to the event you want to copy to, builder, place the cursor where you want it to copy to, "Ctrl+V".  That's it

Read Beginner Access 2013 Level 2 by George C @ 5/31/2016
Hello,

I recently purchased Access 2013 Beginner Level 2. I finished Level 1 on YouTube. However, when I go to the computing courses there is no Access 2013 Beginner Level 2 to take that I can see. What course should I be taking next?

Because 2010 is so similar to 2013 only L1 was re-recorded in 2013, the first few Beginner courses are 2010, then Rich moves to 2013 for the later courses, the later expert ones are using 2016 but there is no reason you won't be able to follow along with any version.

I have been working on a App with Access 2010 and I just upgraded to
Access 2013 so should I just keep on working on it in Access 2013 or should I create a new Project Access 2013 and import it in ??

Yeah can keep working with it in Access 2013 even though it was built in 2010, they both use .accdb extensions.

Is there any way to install Access 2013 runtime and it not corrupt any other versions of Access runtime that may be installed on the computer?
I have customers that run my program with Access 2003 runtime and when they install a new program that runs with Access 2013 runtime the programs that run Access 2003 runtime will not run any more.

Not that I'm aware of. You could try installing it to a different folder, but I can't guarantee it's going to work.

When Microsoft Access 2013 is used in a multi-user network business environment, will it requery when advance filter sort is used (i.e., update any additions or deletions made by other users who have access to the same chart/database?)

I was debating doing the same thing but I just don't like Word.  My office has been using Wordperfect for 20 years. As a word processing program WP is a superior product in my view.

Here is the work around . First, create a query to select a specific record in my access table(s), then turn that query into a Make Table Query which will make a table that I call MergeTable. I then create a macro in wp 10 that will perform a merge with the forms I created in Wordperfect with the data source set to ODBC MergeTable(path). I then create a button on my Access form that will run the Make Table Query and then run the merge.  The Make Table Query will overwrite the table each time its run. In order to avoid the microsoft warning message when opening-running a Wordperfect macro from the vba code Application.FollowHyperlink "wp10macroPath" , use shell function Shell "cmd /c ""wp10macroPath"", vbHide".  Unfortunately, this is a very indirect way to accomplish something that should be easier to automate.

Obviously, Microsoft Access works much better with MS Word. I ended up translating all my forms to MS Word. It was a steep learning curve, but it is working fine now. You might be able to dump your data down to a comma delimited file and then run WP through a Shell command. I just don't know how hard it would be to link the data to the form. We used Dbase III back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and it was easy to open our master form in WP and link it to Dbase and run our merges that way. In the end, it was worth the trouble of converting to MS Word and being able to just push a button and have the form merge automatically.

It may be possible, but Access is not designed to be a word processor and I don't know how difficult it would be to create all the forms necessary for a law office.  I already have all form necessary in Wordperfect.

It would depend on how complex the Forms are but you can design Reports to be quite detailed.
If you already have them in WP your integration route does seem the best option.

Do you have the following option available

Tools | Visual Basic | Visual Basic Editor

If you do you should then be able to use VBA to open an Access Object, get your recordset and fill it in. I'm not sure how you relate it to the values in WP but I'd guess they have names you can refer to.

I've not used WP before.

You may find wpuniverse helpful.
Looks like it has it's own scripting language and has discontinued support for VBA in favour of .NET
Could you not just create your Form in Access and print it via a Report?

This is a bit of a departure from the beaten path of this forum.

I am having very frequent problems with Access 2013 crashing when I close a particular form.

A web search really wasnt much help. I thought it may be the code, but I rebuilt the code line by line and was never able to find anything in there.

The perplexing thing is there is not a specific event that causes it, it is random, but frequent.

If that doesn't work all the usuals
Close/Reopen db
Restart machine
Compact Repair (after a backup)
Check you're updated
Reinstall office

I'm no expert but I was importing excel data into a talbe one day and accidentally forgot to include the headings at the top of each column in the Excel database.  Even though they were named properly and identical to the Access data base, the import gave me that error.  So be sure they are named exactly the same that the heading is included in the import.

I should have said use workspace transactional methods such as begintrans, committrans, and rollback to control all record chanhe's in the subform.

If you set up your workspace then when you create your Recordset make it the query used in you're Subform, this would get the records you need, then you could have a value you wish to change throughout and prompt the user and commit if they confirm, rollback of not.

Is it possible to use workspace transactions within a master-detail form?
The master record is read-only with all the changes occurring to the detail records.

You could set the Fields on the Main Form to Read-Only.
Then the detail or Sub-Form you can have as editable.

Read Access 2013 Form Design by Denise S @ 9/24/2014
Hi
I am following along with the Form design lessons  and am able to insert and arrange fields with no problem but when I go to 'form view' the information in the field is out of sync with the table, ie it starts at record number 52 instead of number 1. Is this something that can be amended later or am I doing something wrong?

Denise, you don't need to worry about that ID. It's an Autonumber. The system will assign it. If you add a bunch of records and then delete them, you don't get those old IDs back. Just keep moving forward and let Access worry about those IDs.

I have had/am having the same problem. I have run all Microsoft updates and Office 365 is automatically updated so there is nothing to manually update but the problem persists. I have resigned myself to trial and error to get the sizes of buttons consistent.

OK, I spent about half an hour Googling this problem. And one guy said that he figured out the problem was because of a display setting in WINDOWS.

Go to your WINDOWS Control Panel > Display > Change the size of all items.

Make sure that this is set to SMALLER (100%) which is the default setting. If it's set to either of the larger settings, this problem occurs.

I am unable to get the problem to occur on any of my systems, so I can't verify the solution, so if you try this and it works PLEASE let me know and I'll post this as a bulletin in my Blog because I know a lot of people have had this problem. It must only be with certain display adapters.

Most of the differences are minor and cosmetic. If you're using 2010 now you won't have any problems with 2013.

My problem is that I have developed a pretty complex database quite a few years ago with access 97, later upgraded to 2000 version. The database includes a fair amount of code, but main issues have come when converting it to a replicated db. This helped solve the problem of synchronisation between various users and ability to use the DB offline when travelling abroad. but replication has caused serious complications which forced me to stop making changes to the structure to avoid continuous damage to the VB project! Converting to a later version is impossible as replication is no longer supported, and therefore I have had to start from scratch with a new db on 2013, hence wanting to have both 2000 and 2013 on the same machine. But as Richard confirmed, it does not work and the continuous reconfiguration I fear could cause damage to this db.
I the end I solved the problem the easy way... By purchasing a new laptop where I have installed the new access version!

I used to have nothing but continuous problems with database replication. I ended up building my OWN replication algorithm that manually checked each field for changes. It worked, but it was slow.

Hi Marco, Rick,

Don't know about 2010 and 2013. I have XP and 2010 on the same machine. If they don't have to be open at the same time they run just fine. By starting either one the program sets it settings it needs. No problems with other applications so far (over a year now).

Yes, they'll run OK on the same system, as long as you don't mind waiting 3 minutes for it to "configure..." every time you run the other version.

I recently upgraded from Microsoft access 2003 to Microsoft access 2013 and when I did it messed up ALL of my file numbers. For instance my paper file may say its file number 48 but in access the file number has been changed to 50. I just want to find a way to fix that without having to reenter every little detail on every file. I have over 400 files and do not want to mess them up by trying to fix them.

What are these FILE NUMBERS you speak of? Are the Autonumbers? Access shouldn't change any of your data just from upgrading from one version to another. I've never seen this happen before. Now, if you're IMPORTING data from one database to another, that can happen. For example, if you create a new 2013 database and IMPORT your 2003 records, then yes, your Autonumbers will all change.

Does anyone know how to run both Access versions 2000-2013 without installing Virtual machines? I am having issues after installing Access 2013. Every time I open either version, the software changes installation settings (replaces certain files in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office) thus  causing problems. Thank you in advance for your help.

I've always had this issue too. In fact, I was hoping to keep 2010 and 2013 installed on the same machine, but they don't want to get along. I spent about 10 minutes Googling for a solution and just gave up.

If click one is launching access and click 2 is choosing "custom web app", you get a drop down box asking for the name and one for web loctation. My domain is wavetheusaflag.com so I put in wavetheusaflag.com/accesss_db and it said an error occured in the client, it could not connect with the server.  Anyone have suggestions?

I have a database that I now use in Access 2013 with no substantial problems, but which is shared with a colleague who only has Access 2010.
My colleague can no longer open the database and I believe the problem is associated with a visual basic command that checks the screen size of his monitor and then opens the database to fit that screen size.
Where do I find the code that is fired up on opening the database?

I use Access 2013 and my colleague uses Access 2010.
During the Beta test of Access 2013 we had no problems, but now I have moved to 2013, he cannot open the database.
I am waiting for him to tell me what error messages he gets, but it seems the problem lies in a module, or rather a function used to maximise the screen.
The module is:

Any idea how I can circumvent this problem?  We do not need to maximise the screen so we need not call the function, but I cannot find from where it is called to take it out.

I use Office 2013 (beta) and find there is no discernible difference between Access 2013 and Access 2010.  There probably is a difference but I have not come across it yet.

The Microsoft programmers with Excel and the group who represent the PowerPivot addin got jealous. This is a feature that theoretically belongs in the domain of multidimensional databases (as opposed to relational databases). Remember that Access is fundamentally a Relational database. This could be a move on the part of Microsoft to introduce a more industrial strength version of PowerPivot (which I belive may be currently available). Although Microsoft Access is a very powerful database, the big push in the industry is now with "Big Data", or business intelligence, and unfortunately Microsoft thinks that Access cannot handle multidimensional mega large (> 100M records) data sets. Keeping the pivot table feature in Access would not give the needed limelight to the group who has come up with Power Pivot and the multidimensional software (which, by the way, is MUCH more expensive than Access). Please remember that Microsoft is in business to make money and profits, and removing the pivot table feature was not personal. You can always bring the table or query into Excel and do the pivot table that way. But I understand your desire to have this feature remain in Access.

I think that silly to remove the pivot table feature. I use this on a daily basis, and yes it has its limitations but you would have thought they would rather improve on it than remove it.

Check out this list of features that Microsoft has removed from the upcoming Access 2013. Nothing is real ground-shaking. I'm surprised they removed PivotCharts (I always use Excel for them anyway). Some of the features like Replicas should have been removed ages ago. What do you think?
