SQL to insert PDF doc into table Link
Eric Michalek

Did some research and still can't figure it out.
The goal:
A form where users drag and drop in scanned (PDF documents).  So far I am using a bound object frame as it gives me the thumb nail view.  Then they click a command button that fires off an insert into SQL statement. Read More...

Honestly, I've never done this before. I did spend a few days trying to figure out ANY way to do drag-and-drop with Access just using text boxes. Couldn't do it. Access doesn't support drag-and-drop without 3rd party add-ons, and I hate those. Personally, I'm against storing objects like PDF files INSIDE your database. That makes it big and bloated (and slow). I'd recommend storing them in a server folder and putting links to them in your database. I talk about this in my Imaging Seminar.

Creating customer reference number Link

Hi,

I have a table which stores all the information about a case study relating to specific projects i.e. one project can have many case studies.  I would like to create a unique Case study refence number (via a form) which needs to be a combination of project number and sequential number.  e.g. 14SIP091.01, 14SIP091.02; 14SIP092.01; 14SIP092.02. I've been trying to use Dmax and concatenate with the project number which doesn't work.  Has anyone else managed this and point me to some sample code.  Many thanks  Sue

I just showed how to make a custom incrementing order number in this TechHelp video. The Extended Cut Member's Edition shows how to make the invoice numbers unique for each customer, which is almost exactly what you need (projects instead of customers).

Hello Richard,
I have a table of customers
I have a combo box on the heading of a form. the idea is that the combobox will display a list of the customers following my entering of the first letters of the customer name and allow me to scroll down the list to find the required name. when I click the required name the customer record must display in the body of the form. Sorting the combo box alphabetically is just something you set up when you create the combo box. The wizard gives you a sorting option. Run through the wizard again and recreate the box. As far as the search goes, Access Beginner 8, lesson 6 covers creating a Search Combo Box.

See... this is why I love the badges next to your names. I can see that you're a Beginner student and can answer your question accordingly. There is a better way to do this, but it requires programming. You'll get there. For now, this is the best solution for you.

When I select a customer to add a new contact in the subform, I select them from the combo box, type the message in the notes section, save and close.

I open the contactR and the name doesn't show up. I feel like something is linked wrong.

If you open the ContactT does the record exist?
If so what is its CustomerID (foreign key)?

Make sure you Refresh the record before opening the report. If the little pencil is still showing in the record selector, the record is dirty which means it hasn't been saved to the table yet. The report won't see it. Refresh then Open Report.
