Well, there's a combo box method that's easy but lacking in options in Access Beginner 7. You can create a command button to do that Access Expert 2. You can open a report to a specific record in Access Expert 5. You can do it with a macro in Access Advanced 1. With VBA I teach DoCmd.OpenForm in Access Developer 1. I teach the On Double Click macro event in Access Advanced 5. With VBA I teach the OnDblClick event in Access Developer 4.

So basically what you need is an OnDblClick event in your Customer (or whatever table) list form that runs a DoCmd.OpenForm with specific criteria. I'm pretty sure I have done this in a lesson before, but looking over my outline, I can't find it! I see that I've covered it in various seminars like the Work Order Seminar. It's something I build ALL the time.

Perhaps I should make a TechHelp video out of this... hmmm.... I'm trying to make them from popular topics, and I think you just made the list. Stay Tuned...

I moved your post to the Access Forum. This comment is so you get the email with the updated link. Sorry. I usually do that before I approve it and post my reply.

Different Languages Link
Maurice Lubert

Following the Developer_12_External_String_Manager Lesson, I have a question:
My current language is Hebrew (which is written with a different alphabet, from right to left). Changing from one alphabet (and direction) is not a big deal in Windows, but there are cases when this is not the best of solutions. In Excel, I am used to programmatically change the start language of a control according to various criteria. After several unsuccessful trials, I now do this with an API call, and I this might be what I have to do in Access. My question is: is there a simpler way to solve the problem? Read More...

Honestly, Maurice, I've never given this much thought. I only speak English and the only other language I have experience with is Latin which I took in high school back in the 80s. Let me put this out on the Access Forum and we'll see if anyone else has experience with it.

Hi, I am able to create a calendar in access 2016 using the active x controls and I have assigned it to a table / field but is it possible to display another field displaying text (from a field in the same table) in the calendar view?

Are you using the Calendar Control ActiveX object? If so, not really. It's very limited. This is why I created my Calendar Control Replacement and the DateTime Picker. You can do whatever you want with those because they're just forms built in Access.

Error Handling in Macros Link
Shelagh Fagan

I have an Append To history macro that I needed to have controls to stop the user running it twice. I used a composite index key set to "unique". Works great. But when you try to rerun I get a long error message part of which says " unable to append... due to key violations'. To make it user friendly I added an OnError, GoTo Error Message at the top of the macro, bypassing the rest of the macro. It never works. It doesn't do the append correctly but it runs the rest of the macro without my error message. I've tried adding [MacroError].[Description]. No luck. Why doesn't the OnError detect the key violation? I bet Rick has a video on this?

Honestly, I really don't like error handling in macros. It's clunky and I've had problems with getting it to work myself in the past. I would try to talk you into rewriting your macro as VBA code and using proper error handling in that. I just covered how to do this in Developer 15, Lesson 2. You can always open the macro up in Design View and then go to Design > Convert to Visual Basic if you don't want to rewrite it yourself.
