Banking Interest Link

I am working on a database where I have a table with transactions similar to a checking account. I have like deposits and withdrawals. I now need to calculate interest on those transactions every month for every account and add that interest transaction to the table as well. Does anybody have a template to give me a jump start?

Splitting a subreport in two parts Link

Hello, I have a report with a subreport in the details section along with other textboxes and data. The subreport is too long to fit on the first page of the report. How can I show the first part of the subreport on the first page and the other part to continue on the 2nd page of the report?

I really hate subreports. They don't work well half the time and you miss out on cool formatting tricks. Use a query. Join together the records from your parent and subreports into one recordsource. Same technique I use to create invoices in Access Expert 9, which I see you have.

The reason I'm using subreports is because I'm trying to replicate a real report that has 4 parts and a specific format order. For example, the 1st part is about the customer (contains 5 textbox about the customer), 2nd part is about emergency contact info (with five text boxes that describe it: name, address, phone number...). If the customer has 5 emergency contact the 2nd part of the report must show 25 text boxes vertically (two columns, title on the left, data on the right), 5 text boxes for each customer. Part 3 and 4 of the report are similar to part 2. The report needs to show all 4 parts in one continuous report, like a 5 page report. If there is another way of creating this report please shed me some light? Thanks in advance.

Open Form Based On 2 Values Link

I have 3 forms. first form has a listbox of vendors when the user select one vendor, it would open a second form with a listbox of clients, then when the user select a client, it would open a third form with info of the client. Because there are clients that can have two or more vendors I would like the third form only to show info about the clients (2nd form) of the selected vendor (1st form). Is that possible?

Yes, but without programming the only way you could do that would be with a query. You would bring in both of those tables and their related values into one query with the proper joins. Now for each of the required IDs, you would have criteria

=Forms!VendorForm!VendorID
=Forms!ClientForm!ClientID


Then you would make your third form based on the results of this query.

You could do it more impressively with 3 list boxes on the same form, but that would involve some programming. That's the topic of Access Developer 14.

Hi Jan. You can certainly build a database to track all of that information in Access, however Access by itself is NOT an online database. You have a couple of different options. You could build a web site with ASP and have your users enter information that way, and then you could pull the data down to your Access database for processing and then publish info back up to the web site. I cover this in my Web Database Seminar or my Web Sync Seminar. The downside of this is that it's more difficult to build. The upside is that they don't need any special software. They can just use a web browser.

Another option is that you could distribute a front-end copy of Access to your users and keep the data online. This way they are working in Access and you can use all of the functionality of Access (forms, reports, etc.) but your data is stored on a central server. I show how to do this in my Access Sharepoint Seminar and my upcoming Access Online SQL Server Seminar. The downside of this is that your users have to have Access or at least a Runtime copy. The pro is that it's easier to set up.

Alternate for Serial Number Link

Hello all.  Richard, you had mentioned you were looking for an alternate name for the serial number field in the Asset Management Database Seminar.  I am taking that seminar right now (it is great, highly recommend it) and building a database to be used to track mechanical equipment in a high rise hotel.  I needed to reserve "serial number" to refer to parts and machines because they are often important when ordering replacement parts.  I also intend to use bar codes in the future so have instead used the term "Identifier". This will allow me to barcode anything.  My intention is to barcode both mechanical equipment and locations.  Guest rooms for instance, will be barcoded and a scan of the bar code will not only open the preventative maintenance form but also reference past maintenance calls so deficiencies can be checked.  This reserves the actual serial numbers of mechanical equipment to differentiate them from other identical model units or validate they are under warranty etc.

Good idea. Yeah, in the years since I recorded that Seminar, I've kind of standardized on using "Serial Number" to refer to a SPECIFIC ITEM whereas "Product Code" refers to a type of product. You might sell a "2 TB Hard Drive" and it has a Product Code of "JSHDSU231" which refers to the entire line of that hard drive, but a specific hard drive has an individual serial number of "29381839843739" for example.
