ME is a keyword.

MS Article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/vba/language/reference/user-interface-help/me-keyword

The Me keyword behaves like an implicitly declared variable. It is automatically available to every procedure in a class module.

When a class can have more than one instance, Me provides a way to refer to the specific instance of the class where the code is executing. Using Me is particularly useful for passing information about the currently executing instance of a class to a procedure in another module.

In lesson 10, the VB code for Command 4 was simplified by replacing "Reports!MonthlyCalendarR(S1)" with just "Me(S1)".
How does Access know what "Me(S1)" means. Was it defined somewhere?

I am using access 2010 and am unable to use calendar control to continue building my calendar. HELP

Reply from Alex Hedley:

Check the comments on the course.
This was removed in 2007 and an addendum lesson was created to fix this.

USING the Microsoft Date and Time Picker control 6.0 (SP4), I don't think dateserial recognizes this control for the purpose of calculating the first sunday of the monthly calendar like the one in the calendar seminar

Reply from Alex Hedley:

Which version of Access are you using?
Why not just a Textbox set to a Date.

I have now selected an ActiveX with a calendar.
When I get to the part in the seminar where I input the code to calculate StartDate:

Private Sub CalculateStartDate()
  StartDate=DateSerial(Year(Calendar),Month(Calendar),1)
End Sub

Private Sub Command20_Click()
  Calculate StartDate
  DoCmd.OpenForm "MonthlyCalendarF"
End Sub

Private Sub Open Calendar B_Click()
End Sub

No Monthly calendar opens.
It was opening same as the seminar, up to this point.
Could you let me know what am I doing wrong?

Reply from Alex Hedley:

Are you using an old version of Access?

Does Command20 link to a button on your Form?
If you click Command20 on your Form in Design View and go to the Events tab is the event connected.

I purchased the Access calendar seminar, and it mentions that I should get the calendar ActiveX, which is non existent in Access 2010.
Can you please give me a substitute way?

Reply from Alex Hedley:

There's a list of Addendums on the Course page that mention the updates.
Just use a Textbox, it comes with a DatePicker now.

Hi,
I have been able to create a very usable calendar in English and now I want to create a version using French labels. It is 99% done but I haven't figured out how to change the months in the MonthlyCalendar report.  Can you help?  Thanks.
Brauna

Reply from Alex Hedley:

Do you have your machine localised in French?

The Month has the following
Format(DATE ,"mmmm yyyy")

You could also use
MonthName ( number, [abbreviate] )

Best regards,

Hi Richard, I completed the Calendar Seminar and want to use it in my workorder database can I do this or do I have to create forms tables etc. in the workorder database?

Reply from Richard Rost:

I don't see any reason why you couldn't copy the required objects over from one database to another. I haven't tried it, but it should work.

Read Another Calendar seminar question by Alex Hedley @ 9/6/2012
Hi Don,

I trick used by Rich in another lesson (can't remember which one, might even be this one) is to close the form then reopen it, then it will re-run all the code for that form and show the new record you added.

Read Another Calendar seminar question by Donald W @ 9/5/2012
Richard,
Your seminar had us enter vba so that when the MonthlyCalendarF! listbox (Day1, Day2,etc) was doubleclicked, the CalendarF opened to the appt in question so we could view all aspects of the appt, or edit it.

To take it a step further, I wanted to be able to dbl-click something, say Date1, and have CalendarF open to a new record, autopopulate the DateTime field and set focus on the Description field so I could add a new appt on the fly.

It works great!  But, I don't see the appt when it closes. I don't know how/where to requery the form.  Every rowsource is different.  Can you point me in the right direction?  I've tried requery in numerous places but it simply doesn't work.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple.  Your help would be appreciated.  Thanks,
Don

Read Calendar seminar question by Donald W @ 9/3/2012
Richard,
Just finished the recently purchased Calendar Seminar.  I built mine in Access 2010, vs you doing it in 2007.  I don't know if this has a bearing on my question.

I noticed that in the CalendarT you would sometimes just enter a date (9/7/2012), sometimes a date/time (9/8/2012 8am). When you opened the calendar, your plain dates would show as 9/7/12 0000 and it would show on the correct date.
When I enter just a date, the date in question shows up on the date I typed AND on the previous date.  So 9/7/2012 would show as 9/7/2012 0000 ON 9/7, and it would also show up on 9/6!

Since I am using this for personal use, many times I don't need a time.  So I want to just pick a date and keep on trucking.  I don't want to have to enter a fictitous time.  But, I want to maintain the time functionality when I do have a specific need, like "DR X @ 2:15".
Can you think of something I've done wrong, or is this a 2010 quirk?

Thanks,
Don

Reply from Richard Rost:

Make sure you are displaying dates that are GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO StartDate and LESS THAN (but NOT equal to) the EndDate. Like:

>=StartDate AND
If you used ">=S AND <=E" that would cause those midnight dates to show up on both calendars.

Once the first calendar is built has anyone learned how to add a control button to the calendar to advance, or go backwards, the month by each click of the button and the year at the next January .  Additionally is there a way to wrap text in the calendar boxes? My attempts have been unsuccessful so far.

Add an extra field saying closed/cancelled then base the query of appointments on only ones that aren't closed or cancelled.
So add a WHERE clause saying WHERE closed = NO now when you change it, it shouldn't be shown

Read Calendar Seminar Part 2 by Alex Hedley @ 4/26/2011
Hi Rick
I think a lot of additions have already been mentioned in the Seminar blog post and seminar lesson interactions but to re-iterate adding more functionality to the basic calendar would be fantastic
• recurring events [copy the payables seminar?]
• reminders on the main form for upcoming/today's events
• not sure different colours could work without a plugin although add an extra label/drawing tool around a list box
Added complexity:-
• Event types - Birthday, Bill ... (add a symbol)
• import calendars from Facebook etc
(you can import the ics file from Facebook into Outlook/Windows calendar, can this be parses into Access, I guess it's just data like everything else)
• other calendar events from google mail etc
• I think sharing has been mentioned below
• holidays for staff etc (dependant on calendar use)
• public holidays / Easter, Christmas, Bank Holidays
• multiple users, then filter by in form view/report view

[Is there still Interest in the Tracking Attendance seminar as there were ideas linking to that which would be useful?]

Hope you had a fun Easter :)

Kind Regards
Alex

One of my good students, Jimmy, asked if I was planning to create a followup for my Calendar Seminar. He says that the current seminar is great, but he'd like to see extra features added like popup reminders, appointment categories, recurring events, and so on.

Of course, the point of the original seminar was just to show you how to format a form and a report to LOOK like a monthly calendar, but he does raise a good point.

So, is anyone else interested in a followup to the Calendar Seminar to add all of these extra bells and whistles? If so, what features would YOU like to see added?

Read Integrate Access Calendar Seminar into Existing Da by Angela @ 7/19/2010
I have completed the Access Calendar seminar, and I've built the Calendar form step by step and it works fabulously.

What I'm hoping to do now is integrate it into an existing database.

In my database there is a form to show the due dates for each step in a schedule.

The existing due date form uses one table, with multiple date/time fields, each field indicating the milestone for a project.

I need to be able to display each milestone (the date/time field) on the calendar I just built using the seminar. There would be no need to show times, as only one milestone happens per day. I would need each item to appear on the appropriate day of the calendar.

Please tell me this is possible.

Thanks,
Angela

Reply from Richard Rost:

To use your existing table that has multiple date fields would be a little tricky. You'd be better off using an append query and copying each of those multiple dates to your Calendar table so each one shows up as a separate record. Perhaps trigger it with an "Add Dates to Calendar" button on that form. Otherwise, you'd have to change the structure of your Calendar forms and reports to read multiple date fields.

Debbie, the current Access Calendar Seminar doesn't cover any integration with Outlook, but that's an excellent idea for a future seminar.

I will add it to the Waiting List, and if enough people are interested, I'd certainly love to record it. Cast your vote here:

the calendar seminar looks great and I know that is the first step for what i need. I would like to know if you will offer and future classes to learn how to link Access with any of the other calendar software programs, so you can have the option of real-time reminders?
