Q: It would appear that a spam bot of some sort is attacking my frontpage form by emailing 300 to 400 invalid mail messages per day to my inbox. Looking at the email sender it looks like it comes from some sort of email generator. How can I fight this?
A: While you can't do something like a graphic "captcha" test (where the web site shows you a picture of text and you type in the word) with the BASIC Frontpage form submit, you CAN do something like this...
Put a text box on the bottom of your form with the instructions:
"Type the number 125 into this box to prove you're a human..."
Now, double-click on that text box and go to VALIDATE.
Set DATA TYPE to NUMBER. Set the DATA VALUE to Field Must be Equal to 125.
Now, if anyone tries to submit the form and doesn't fill out this value, then the form won't go.
If you start getting spam from someone who figures this out, all you have to do is go in here and change the value - at least they'll have to come back to your site and read what it is AGAIN.
It's not going to get rid of ALL of your spam, but at least this should cut down on MOST of it for a while... anything more than this will require more advanced script programming in ASP or Javascript.
