Description: Intermediate Photoshop
Running Time: 75 minutes
Pre-Requisites: Photoshop 103 strongly recommended
Versions:
We use Photoshop 7 in this class, but the lessons are valid for just about every version of Photoshop, including Elements. The concepts are the same regardless of Photoshop version.

This class is all about editing damaged photographs. If you want to learn how to fix and restore old photos, this is the perfect course for you. We'll teach you a whole bunch of different techniques for removing damage from pictures, removing portions of images you don't want, cleaning up scratches and discolorations, and much more. Here are some samples of what we do in this class. Click on any of the photos to enlarge.

Removed water damage (brown spots)

Removed scratches, removed kid from background,
corrected discoloration

Removed most of the flash glare from the window,
but not enough to make it look fake

Removed the dreaded "red eye."

These are just a few of the images we'll work on in this class. As you can see, we'll go through a bunch of different techniques for editing pictures. See the teacher's outline below for a list of the tools we'll be using.

Richard on 1/1/2007:  This class is all about editing damaged photographs. If you want to learn how to fix and restore old photos, this is the perfect course for you. We'll teach you a whole bunch of different techniques for removing damage from pictures, removing portions of images you don't want, cleaning up scratches and discolorations, and much more. Restoring damaged photos. Clone stamp, pattern stamp, Healing Brush, Patch Tool, Remove Red Eye, more. Sample Files: /photoshop/201
NormanĀ Jackson on 2/8/2009: I like the way you "accidently" make a mistake to show what could happen.
Kathy Rosenboom on 7/31/2013: Hi Richard,
I have elements 10 and I can't find the patch tool.

Reply from Richard Rost:

The Patch Tool is one of those tools that is in the full version of Photoshop but not Elements. You can get a nearly identical effect using the Healing Brush.
