Intro In lesson 202, you will learn how to use named cells and ranges, work with nested IF functions, and master both VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP to look up values in tables in Microsoft Excel. This intermediate-level class is designed for students already familiar with material from Excel 101 through 201. All topics apply to various versions of Microsoft Excel, including Excel 97, 2002 (XP), and 2003.
Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Excel 202 Intermediate Excel brought to you by 599CD.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.

In today's class, we are going to cover named cells and ranges, nested IF functions, and two very powerful and related functions: VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP, which are used for looking up a value in another table.

Prerequisites: you should have taken Excel 101 through 201. That includes 102, 103, and 104. This is an intermediate class and I am not going to take a lot of time to review topics that we covered in previous classes, so I am going to assume that you are familiar with all the materials up through and including Excel 201.

In today's class, I will be using Microsoft Excel XP, the 2002 version. However, all of the lessons are valid for every version of Microsoft Excel, including 97 and even 03.

I recommend you sit back and watch the lesson one time through to get a feel for what I am doing, then go back through and go through the lesson on your own. I strongly recommend you type in all the sample spreadsheets that I do in class. You will absorb the material much more readily.

Do not try to understand everything that I have done the first time through. Sometimes, some of these lessons can take one or two times of doing it and watching it before you get it. Sometimes, it makes a lot more sense the second time through. That is why I say watch it once all the way through, and then go back through the lesson and try it on your own.

The website for this class is at 599cd.com/Excel/202. You will find the sample files on that website and any other notes that I might have about this class after the videos are recorded.

Some sample spreadsheet files have been installed on your computer in the Excel 202 folder and the Program Files 599CD location.

Most important, make sure to have fun. Remember, Excel is fun if you are doing something you enjoy. Excel is not just for work. Take something that you have at home, maybe a hobby, put it in Excel, and do some of the nifty tricks that I am teaching in class. You will learn much better if you are having fun.

Summary Today's video from Excel Learning Zone covers some important intermediate Excel topics. In this lesson, I am going to show you how to work with named cells and ranges, as well as how to use nested IF functions. We will also cover VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP, which are essential functions for searching for values within other tables.

Before starting this lesson, it is important that you have already completed the previous Excel classes, specifically Excel 101 through 201, including 102, 103, and 104. Since this is an intermediate class, I am not going to spend time reviewing concepts that were already discussed in those earlier lessons, so I will be assuming you are familiar with the fundamentals up to and including Excel 201.

For today's tutorial, I am using Microsoft Excel XP, which is also known as Excel 2002. However, everything I demonstrate here is compatible with other versions of Excel as well, including Excel 97 and Excel 2003.

My recommendation for this lesson is to first watch it all the way through just to get a sense of the content and the flow of what I am doing. Then, after you have seen the entire lesson, go back and try the exercises yourself. Be sure to type out all the sample spreadsheets as we go along. This hands-on practice is the best way to really learn and absorb the material.

Do not worry if you do not fully understand everything after the first viewing. Sometimes it takes watching and practicing the material a second time for it to really make sense. That is why it is helpful to watch first and come back later for a more active review.

You can visit my website for this class at 599cd.com Excel 202. On that page, you will find sample files used in the lesson as well as any additional notes related to this class after the videos are recorded.

Some sample spreadsheets are also included on your computer in the Excel 202 folder, which is under the Program Files 599CD location.

Above all else, remember to enjoy yourself and have fun. Excel can be a lot of fun, especially if you use it for something you enjoy outside of work. Try taking one of your hobbies and building a spreadsheet around it with some of the techniques I teach in class. You will find that learning comes more easily when you are engaged and having a good time.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
