Add-In for Access to Run on Most Platforms
Run your Microsoft Access databases on almost any platform. I'm introducing my new add-in for Microsoft Access that allows you to run your database on almost any platform including Android, macOS, Linux, and more.
For years, Microsoft has had versions of the other Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook available for other platforms, or even online in your web browser. However my favorite application, Microsoft Access, never seems to get any love.
Well, I've decided to change all that. After almost 2 years of work, I've come up with a Microsoft Access Add-In that will allow you to run your Access database on almost every popular platform. Just install the add-in and you can compile your database to run as a native application on almost any operating system.

Hi, I'm Richard Rost with AccessLearningZone.com.
I'm introducing my new add-in for Microsoft Access that allows you to run your database on almost any platform, including Android, Mac OS, Linux, and more.
For years, Microsoft has said different versions of the other Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are available for other platforms, or even online in your web browser. However, my favorite application, Microsoft Access, never seems to get any love.
I've decided to change all that. After almost two years of work, I've come up with a Microsoft Access add-in that will allow you to run your Access Database on almost every popular platform.
Just install the add-in and you can compile your database to run as a native application on almost any operating system.
Of course, Access is native to Windows. Access 365 runs on Windows 8, 10, and 11, just as it always did. You will still have to continue to develop and build your Access applications under Windows. However, my new patent pending add-in will allow you to run your Access applications on a variety of different platforms.
I know I've gotten a lot of email from a lot of you who are geeky Linux users. You can now use your Access Databases on your Linux machines. And please stop emailing me telling me how much better Linux is than Windows. I get it.
There's a native Android version for my add-in. You can now run your Access Databases on your Android tablet, or with a little extra work, you can design screens that fit on your Android phone. There's even an option to run on the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. Again, you're not going to be able to fit much on the screen, but if you need to look up that client's phone number in a pinch, it's right on your wrist.
I'm no Mac expert, so I actually teamed up with my longtime colleague and AccessLearningZone Administrator, Access Headly, to design a Mac OS version. Yes, you can run an Access native app on the Mac now without an emulator like Parallels. There's also a native iOS version that will run on your iPad. And, of course, even your iPhone.
If you've still got some old computers running Windows 95 or 98 in the office, you can use my add-in to run your new Access 365 databases on those older machines. It's not going to run fast, but it will run. This way, you don't have to keep using that older Access 2.0 that you've got on floppy disks.
We actually just got our Windows 3.11 version working as well, so there's another option for you.
And who didn't love their old Tandy Radio Shack Color Computer from back in the 80s? I'm still working on this one, but I hope to have the add-in ready by next quarter. This one is taking me a little bit longer.
You might expect to pay hundreds or even tens of dollars for an add-in that lets you run all of your favorite Microsoft Access databases on pretty much any platform. I would be well within my rights to charge that much. But no, you can download a copy of my add-in absolutely free. Yep, free.
Why am I giving it away for free? I figured the more people I can get working with Access on their different devices, the more of my Access Lessons I'll sell and the more Membership Signups I'll get. So, I'm giving away the add-in free of charge.
So, head over to my website right now at the link shown and download a free copy of my Access add-in. I'll put a link down below in the description under the video that you can click on.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.Quiz No quiz available.Summary Today's video from Access Learning Zone introduces an exciting new development that I'm proud to share with you. I have created a brand new add-in for Microsoft Access that lets you run your databases on nearly any platform you can think of, including Android, Mac OS, Linux, and more.
As many of you already know, Microsoft has made versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint available for different operating systems and even online through your browser. Unfortunately, Access never seems to get the same treatment. It has always been my favorite Office application, so I've spent nearly two years working on a solution.
The result is a patent-pending add-in that allows your Microsoft Access databases to be compiled into native applications for just about any popular platform. Once you install this add-in, you have the flexibility to run your database applications in a wide variety of environments.
Access will always be at home on Windows, and you'll continue to do your development work there, especially with Access 365 which supports Windows 8, 10, and 11. However, with my add-in, running your finished applications on different types of hardware and operating systems is now a real possibility.
I've heard from many of you who prefer Linux, and I'm happy to say you can now use your Access databases on your Linux machines. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you do not need to keep reminding me how much you prefer Linux over Windows! Your requests have been heard.
Android users can take advantage of a native version of the add-in as well. That means you can run your Access databases on your Android tablets, and with some adjustments, even on Android phones. There's even support for the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch, which is perfect for quick lookups like fetching a client's phone number on your wrist, even if screen space is limited.
For Mac users, I worked closely with my longtime collaborator and Access Learning Zone administrator, Access Headly, to develop a Mac OS version. This enables Access apps to run natively on Mac systems without relying on emulators like Parallels. There is also an iOS version available, so you'll be able to use your Access databases on your iPad and your iPhone.
For those with older systems still running Windows 95 or 98, the add-in can help you bring your modern Access 365 databases to those machines. While performance will be slow, at least you aren't stuck with Access 2.0 on floppy disks any longer. We have made progress on a Windows 3.11 compatible version too, expanding compatibility even further.
One more for nostalgia's sake, I am still working on support for the Tandy Radio Shack Color Computer from the 1980s. Progress is a bit slower there, but I am hopeful to finish within the next few months.
You might wonder about the cost for such a versatile tool, expecting a high price tag given how much value and convenience it provides. But actually, I am offering it completely free of charge. My goal is to help as many people as possible enjoy Access on their favorite devices, which in turn might lead more folks to explore my Access lessons and sign up for memberships.
You can find a link to download the add-in on my website, and I will include that information below this article. If you have any thoughts or questions, I am always happy to hear from you.
You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below.
