Well, it does but then the user has the refresh the page in order for the newly added name to appear in the combo box.

I just think you explain things a lot better.
I may be able to play around with a macro as per lesson 3 in tutorial 22 and achieve the end i want. if i don't succeed, i am sure i will have learnt how to do something else which may come in useful.

Yes, you can certainly do something like this, and I cover it in my advanced (300-level) classes. Essentially you use a data entry form (which you build yourself) and then in the OnClose event for that form you issue a ComboBoxName.REQUERY command which forces the combo to reload its values.
You need VBA for this, or at least a macro. You could also put the code in the CLOSE button for the form.
