Brad Bogle
For the developers. Is there a way to incorporate our office's Topaz SigLite T-LBK460-HSB-R electronic signature pad to insert a signature in our Chain of Custody forms that I am designing in MS Access? I contacted the manufacturer and they basically told me that I'm on my own If it's not for Excel or Word
Scott Axton
Looking at their site it looks like they have add-ins for Office.
That being the case I imagine you could come up with a solution that will work in Access.

How are you using / capturing the data now?
Can you better describe what you would like to do in Access that is different from the way you are doing things now?

Brad Bogle
Currently we're doing it in Excel. I created a Chain of Custody Form template there and we capture the signatures there but we're trying to move all of our work into Access. For a little background; we do drug testing and occupational first aid and safety. Record keeping is critical so we're trying to use Access exclusively and move our BE into SQL Server eventually. I designed the COC Form in Access but we have to be able to capture signatures from our Clients and Collectors. Yes I have inserted the code into Word and Excel for the signature pad to use as an Add-In but I'm not a developer (yet). I don't know if it will also work for Access. I know for there were two seperate files for Word and Excel

Also, we are currently using Sharepoint for our tables and Access for the front end

I've never done anything with electronic signature pads, BUT... I will tell you that if they have an add-on / library for Excel and Word, I don't see why it wouldn't work with Access. All of the Office apps have a very similar object model. Without having one to experiment with, however, it's impossible for me to tell you for sure.

Thanks Richard. I'm going to investigate this some more. I'm trying to learn about all this stuff as quickly as I can but it seems like every time I come upon a new obstacle, there's a whole new field of study I have to jump into. I love the learning but I'm getting stretched pretty thin. I'd be super lost without your classes though. I'm very grateful man. I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me in the future
Richard Rost
Thanks, Brad. And yeah, my expertise is limited to things I've worked with in the past, and this isn't one of them. I'm sure I could figure it out, but you're the FIRST person to ask me about this, and unless there's demand for a particular topic, it doesn't make sense for me to buy a signature pad, spend time figuring out how to get it to work, record a video about it, etc.

Hi Brad.
Look up " Microsoft inkpicture control " it may help you.
I do have a sample App with it already built if it would help you.
Brad Bogle
I appreciate the input Ray. I'm not sure that will work though. Digital signature pads timestamp the document and the signature will self destruct if you edit the document after it's been signed. Meaning that they are considered official and will hold up in court. Since we're dealing with not only medical information but the results from our tests can sometimes send people to prison or influence custody trial results, the signatures have to meet certain standards and I don't believe ink picture control does
Brad Bogle
Soo...there is a SigPlus Active X control within Access. Can't believe I didn't think to check there. I'm gonna try it out when I get back to the office tomorrow. If it works I'll post here so maybe I can answer someone else's question someday
Richard Rost
It was probably installed when you installed whatever software came with your reader. A lot of applications will do that if they have Office-compatible controls, plug-ins, or object libraries that you can use. Like I said, if they have software to make it work with Excel, you should be able to get it to work with Access.
