Customer Service Forum

This forum is for customer service questions. You can ask things here about your account, your order, our web site, what our courses contain, or anything customer-service related.

While I recommend you don't post personal data here, don't worry... every question gets screened by a Forum Admin (Alex or me) before going public. We'll read it first, and if you need a personal reply, we'll email you.

Don't forget you can also check the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) page for help. If your need for help is URGENT, or contains sensitive info, you can contact me via Email or the TechHelp page. Remember, this is a public forum. Everyone can read it. And remember to read my Customer Service Policy. Very important.

Why this Forum? Well, I get asked the same questions over and over again. This is a place where, hopefully, you can check to see if your question has been answered before emailing me. This saves me time, and you get your question faster. I try to update the FAQs page as often as I can, but this is easier for everyone.

Subscribe to this forum and receive an email update whenever new posts are added. You will also be notified by email if any conversations you are involved in receieve new comments.

HI Richard:

Type those two things into the search box at the top of the site. You'll find them right away. I did. They might show up under the "News" section. I need to update that search results page. But they're in there. Trust me.

I searched for "Checklists" and "Primary Customer" in the search box at the top of the site and they both showed up first down under the "Posts found in the News" section. I need to reorganize the search page results, but everything is in there.

Richard, do you have any info on how we can work around THIS end of life Adobe problem?
has anybody else told you about this problem? I call my IT department and they are aware of the problem and their comments were, to talk to you, You are the video producer, THUS you have to make arrangements to get your videos on some kind of format that will allow them to be broadcasted, WE CAN NOT Do THAT,  I guess I don't understand it. but they say there's nothing we can do - it's, up to you. NO ONE ELSE CAN DO THIS. Read More...

I understand your frustration, Roy, but this problem has nothing to do with my videos. Yes, I produce the videos. They're standard MP4 files. The problem is with YOUR browser. Please see this: Adobe Flash Player End of Life.

There's nothing I can do about it. You have to uninstall Flash or at least disable it in your browser. Instructions are on that page.

Sorry you got the Covid. Hope you're feeling better.

Downloading ZIP Files Upload Images   Link

I purchased beginner level 2/3.  I am having difficulty downloading the sample database.  I finally did, but now my computer tells me I need to purchase winzip in order to unzip the file.  Is this accurate?  Is there another way.
Richard Rost

You shouldn't need to purchase WinZIP. Every version of Windows since Windows 98 has supported direct access to ZIP files. However if you want a good free (shareware) alternative, I prefer WinRAR.

This page explains how to download ZIP files from my site: Manual Download.

BTW, As you know, we've known each other for about 40 years, maybe even longer. If my memory serves me right, back then you looked an awful lot like your picture on  your web page :-) Read More...

I'm starting out with your annual Beginners program because I've obviously forgotten many of the basics. I fully intend to move up to the expert level next year.

In the course information I see that you are referring to Access XP, Frontpage XP etc.  Have you upgraded the course to the platforms now being used?
Richard Rost

If you're referring to my Web Database Seminar then no, it has not been updated. It's pretty old, but everything in that seminar still works with today's technology. ASP hasn't changed (the web language) and we only use Access for the tables, so that's pretty much the same. I am planning an updated version of this which should be available VERY soon using Access 2019, SQL Server Online thru an ISP like GoDaddy, and ASP. It will accomplish pretty much the same goals as my recently released SharePoint Seminar. If you want to purchase the older Web Database Seminar today and try it out, I will give you a FREE upgrade to the new SQL seminar when it's released.

Thank you for your good will...but nothing seems to help: I still miss Download links for Access Developer 14 & 15 (and Developer 7 Handbook - for all these I have only "Course Pages"). Can you solve the problem?
Richard Rost
Hi Maurice. That's the way the courses are being published now. I am no longer using the Old Theater. The last Access class to be posted there was Developer 13. Everything from Developer 14 on, and handbooks from Developer 7 on, will get Course Pages. You can view and download your lessons right from those pages. They're better. They allow full-screen videos. I can post more information on those pages than the old Theater format. Plus I can have better student interaction on each page with comments. Enjoy!

Hi Richard, after being overwhelmed by sub-par Access learning materials online (either they would be too basic for what I need, or would explain complicated material assuming I had background knowledge which I do not have) I was excited to find one of your developer videos on YouTube and decided to spring for your paid courses here. I am familiar with using Access to enter data, but creating a new database has been a challenge for me. Read More...

Hi Danielle. You're not alone. While I try to make it so that my courses stand alone, there's really no way around cumulative instruction. For example, if you go sit in a college Math 301 course to learn Calculus and you haven't been to 101 and don't know basic arithmetic, you're going to have a rough time. That being said, I would recommend picking up the course you think you need and if you're lost, go back one lesson. Usually the topics are grouped together so things like "action queries" are all covered right around each other.

I do strongly recommend taking the lessons in order to get the most out of them, but if budget is a concern, I do have a membership option available where you get a new lesson every week (or whatever interval you like) at a 50% discount: Learning Connection.
