Track Your Stock Portfolio in Microsoft Excel 365

 S  M  L  XL  FS  Join Now

In this video, I'll show you how to track your stock portfolio in Microsoft Excel, and get real-time price updates from the Internet. We'll calculate our total profit and percent gain. This feature is only available for Microsoft 365 subscribers.

Xander from Omaha, Nebraska (a Gold Member) asks: A friend of mine told me that you can get current stock prices in Excel automatically. Can you show me how to do that?

Members

Members will learn how to format the stock data as a table which makes updates much easier. We will also see how to use conditional formatting to make the data easier to visualize. We'll see how to pick a stock when Excel doesn't guess the name correctly. Finally, we will record a macro and assign it to a button to refresh the stock data automatically.

Silver Members and up get access to an Extended Cut of this video. Gold Members can download the database template from class plus get access to the Code Vault. If you signed up on YouTube you have to contact me so I can set up your account here on my web site. If you're not a member, Join Today!

Macro in Stock Portfolio Upload Images   Link

Richard,
I reviewed your Excel video on stock portfolio and followed your instructions to include a button to update my stock prices.  Some background: I have the recent Microsoft release. I have set up my documents to be automatically saved to Microsoft's "One Drive". My  portfolio has a security code feature.  I am told because of this "feature" this document will not be automatically saved and you have to manually save it when you exit the spreadsheet. I saved my spreadsheet and reopened it and clicked on the macro button and I get the following response. "Cannot run the macro "DG Invest Portfolio 2021.xlsx'!Update Prices'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled. Is there a problem using Macros when you use the security code feature?  Or is it something else?

Have you saved your workbook as a Macro-Enabled Workbook (xlsm)? Excel won't run Macros in a standard Excel Workbook (xlsx).

You may have to put it in a Trusted Location as well.
File -> Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings...
