Access Inspections Template Microsoft Access Inspections Database Template
VideosDescriptionThis database is put together to track home inspections, but you can use it for vehicle inspections, or pretty much whatever kind of inspections you want. It's based on my TechHelp Template so it's already got customers, contact management, and order entry. Now, we're adding inspections to it as well. You can specify different locations, such as bedrooms, the kitchen, living room, etc. Each location can have different categories such as electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc. Each category can have multiple items, such as the appliances, doors, etc. And each item can have multiple issues. Flooring for example might have torn carpets, broken tiles, etc. It's fully customizable to your needs and specifications. You can download a sample copy of the database to play with absolutely free, if you want to just use it and give it a try, and see if it works for you. Of course if you purchase the template you get the unlocked version. You can make any changes that you want. You get the complete source code. There is a free 26 minute video, above, that walks you through all the features, how to set up all the locations, the categories, items, and issues. I've also got lots of other videos explaining how a lot of this stuff works like, for example, many to many relationships, nested continuous sub forms, and so on. Sample DatabaseIf you'd like to download a sample copy of the database template, you can do so here. This is a NON-EDITABLE version of the template which will let you see it work in action. The sample database requires 64-bit Access 2013 or higher. Full Purchased DatabaseOnce you have purchased the full database template, come back to this page and click on the Download button below. This will give you access to the ZIP file containing the Template ACCDB file. Links
NotesSomeone on my YouTube channel commented, "Rick, without the ability to use it on a tablet/phone, makes this almost useless. Nobody wants to write everything down on paper and go to a computer to add it to an application." This is true. However, my reply is to simply use a tablet that runs Windows. I found one on Amazon that should run Access OK and it's under $200. Here's another one. I've always prefered Lenovo myself. They're a little more expensive, but worth it. Or, you can set up the database in a Windows PC in your office and connect to it remotely using Chrome Remote Desktop. You can then use it on any Android or iOS device. Or, you can set the database up on Access Database Cloud or any other virtual PC hosting platform. So... no excuse. LicenseFor internal use only. Additional licenses are required if you plan on using this template with more than ten (10) employees or in multiple locations within your organization. Not a Finished ProductPlease keep in mind that most of my template databases are not designed to be finished products that are ready to go in a working environment. My templates are meant as starting points for you to customize for yourself so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. This requires that you have a basic understanding of Microsoft Access development. To work on most of my databases you should have completed my Access Beginner series and the first couple levels of my Expert series at a minimum. Most of my databases require knowledge of SQL and VBA as well. Keep in mind that most of my templates are not like off-the-shelf software. They're starting points for developers to be able to modify and use as their own. It really is going to be in your benefit to watch all of the prerequisite videos so you understand the database and how it works moving forward. This is not like QuickBooks where you just install it and use it. My templates are mostly designed for people who already have an understanding of how Microsoft Access works. Customize For Your NeedsIf you would like to discuss customizing this template for your needs, and integrating it into your current setup, please see my consulting page for details. While I no longer accept custom jobs that are specific to a single user, I may include your features in a future version of this template if they have mass appeal. If you are looking for custom enhancements made to this template just for you, visit my Developer Network. Technical SupportPlease note that technical support is NOT guaranteed for any of my courses, seminars, or templates. If you require help with modifying this template, you may post a question in the Forums, however an answer to your question is not guaranteed. If this template comes with an accompanying Seminar, then you should purchase that Seminar to see how the database was constructed. If not, then you should have taken the suggested courses. Most of my templates are designed on a Developer level and you should have a thorough understanding of SQL and VBA before attempting to modify them. If you have a problem with one of my databases, I will only support the unmodified database exactly as it's downloaded from my site. If you have modified it in any way, it may not be something I can help you with. You can post in the Forums, and I may be able to help you, but if the issue doesn't exist in my unmodified database, it's not something I can support. IntroIn this video, I introduce the Microsoft Access Inspections Template, a flexible database designed to help you track home, vehicle, or other types of inspections. We will look at how to manage customers, track inspections by location and category, add detailed inspection items and issues, and print organized inspection reports. I will also show you how to customize locations and categories to fit your specific needs, and explain how you can download a free sample of the template to try it out for yourself.TranscriptIntroducing the Microsoft Access Inspections Template, brought to you by AccessLearningZone.com. I am Richard Rost, your instructor. This database is put together to track home inspections, but you can use it for vehicle inspections or pretty much whatever kind of inspections you want.It is based on my TechHelp template, so it has customers. There is a list of customers here. You have contact management and order entry in case you want to track your orders for your customers that you are doing inspections for. Each customer also now has a list of inspections. Here is one for me: doing a home inspection on Rick's house. You can see he found that the kitchen appliances, the dishwasher leaks, and the microwave is dented. The master bathroom has a closet door missing, and so on. If you want to add a new item, go to the living room. Flooring, carpeting is torn. When you pick that, you can double-click here. Double-click add, and there it goes right up on the list. If there are also some nails you have to tap down, pick tap down nails right there. Ready to print out your report? Just click on print. I will bring up the printable report right there. You can see it is all categorized by room. You can set this up and customize it any way you want. Here are the different locations: bathrooms, bedrooms, front exterior, rear exterior, kitchen. You can add whatever locations you want. Each location has different categories. For example, the kitchen has doors, electrical, flooring, HVAC, windows, plumbing, appliances. I grouped them all together, but you could do bedrooms separately: bedroom one, bedroom two, master bedroom, same thing with bathrooms. You can put as many different locations here as you want, and as many different categories. For each category, each category has different items, and each item can have issues. For example, appliances - dishwasher: dented, leaks, still power, and so on. Microwave: the turntable is missing. Refrigerator: the handle is broken. You go down each one of these items: doors, electrical, flooring, gutters, whatever categories you want to add. Those go in locations, and that makes filling out your inspections so much easier because everything is right in here. All right, kitchen, appliances, range. Hit add, and we are good. Pretty straightforward, pretty simple. It is a good database. It took me a couple hours to build it. You can download a sample copy of the database to play with on my website, absolutely free. You can use it and give it a try to see if it works for you. Of course, if you purchase the template, you get the unlocked version. You can make any changes that you want. You get the complete source code. You can do all this stuff. There is also a 26-minute video on my website that walks you through all the features, how to set up all the locations and categories, how to use the database. I have also got lots of other videos explaining how a lot of this stuff works. For example, many-to-many relationships, nested continuous subforms, and so on. SummaryToday's video from Access Learning Zone introduces the Microsoft Access Inspections Template. I am Richard Rost, your instructor. This database was designed primarily for tracking home inspections, but it is flexible enough to accommodate other types of inspections, such as vehicle inspections or virtually any scenario where you need to track inspection details. The template is built upon my existing TechHelp template, which means it comes with customer management features. You have a customer list available, along with the ability to manage contacts and handle order entry. This is useful if you want to keep track of inspection orders for each customer. Each customer can have multiple inspections associated with them. For example, you might record a home inspection for a particular customer, where you note specific findings such as a leaking dishwasher or a missing closet door in the master bathroom. Adding new inspection items is straightforward. If you need to log an issue in the living room, such as torn carpeting, you simply select the relevant location and category, then add the item to the inspection. You can also identify additional issues like nails that need to be tapped down. Once your inspection is complete, generating a report is simple and the report is organized by room, which makes it easy to review and print. You have full control to set up and customize the template as you need. You can define different locations like bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, or various exterior areas. Within each location, you can create categories such as doors, electrical, plumbing, appliances, and more. For instance, you might decide to separate bedrooms into bedroom one, bedroom two, and master bedroom, or do the same with bathrooms. The system allows you to add as many locations and categories as necessary for your specific workflow. Within each category, you can define different inspection items, and for each item, you can track specific issues. For example, the appliances category in the kitchen could cover items such as the dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator, each with their own potential issues. This structure, which includes doors, electrical, flooring, gutters, and so on, makes it simple to comprehensively and consistently fill out inspections, as all relevant information is easily accessible. Performing inspections and entering data is a simple process. You pick the location, choose the category, select the item, and add any relevant findings. The template was designed to be efficient and easy to use, and it only took a couple of hours to create the core functionality. A sample copy of the database is available for free download on my website, so you can test it out and see if it meets your needs. If you choose to purchase the template, you will receive the unlocked version, giving you access to modify it as much as you want, including access to all the source code. There is also a 26-minute video on my website that provides a complete walkthrough of all the features, including how to set up locations, add categories, and effectively use the database. Additionally, I have many other instructional videos covering topics such as designing many-to-many relationships and working with nested continuous subforms.
