Description

This database template will allow you to track unlimited projects and their associated tasks. It includes a Gantt chart form and printable report. It’s great for all kinds of scheduling, whether it’s projects, personnel, or resources.  This template is built 100% in Access with no add-ins, DLLs, or 3rd-party components to install. There is a free 4 minute video, above, that you can watch which will walk you through all of the features.

Sample Database

If you'd like to download a sample copy of the database template, you can do so here. This is a non-editable version of the template which will let you see it work in action. The sample database requires 64-bit Access 2013 or higher. If you're still using 32-bit Office, read this.

Full Developer Database

Once you have purchased the full developer database template, come back to this page and click on the Download button below. This will give you access to the ZIP file containing the Template ACCDB file. The full version will run on 32-bit or 64-bit Access 2013 or higher (possibly 2007, but I haven't tested it).

Possible Future Upgrades

The following are possible upgrades that I'm considering for a future version, if there is interest. If you are interested in any of these, or have suggestions of your own, please post them in the comments section below.

  • More colors than red and blue
  • Multiple time slots for the same task instead of just one
  • Hourly time slots, 15 min increments, instead of just whole days
  • Hide weekends
  • Display some data in the blocks, hover tooltips for more, double-click to edit
  • Zoom in and out (timeframe): Workday, 1 day, 1 week, 3 weeks, month, quarter, year
  • Also see this older thread discussing this template

I didn't include a lot of the simple, standard fields (project address, cost, etc.) or add a customer table or things of that nature because this was designed to be a simple template that you can integrate into your existing database. This is designed for the Access developer who knows how to add their own fields and additional tables for things they need. However, if you would like to see this built into a more "full featured" database with all of those extraneous fields, tables, reports, etc. Let me know. Your feedback is very important. I'll take this project in whatever direction there is demand.

License

For internal use only. This template does NOT come with a royalty-free license. You may only customize the database for your business needs and for use within your organization. You may not resell or distribute it to others without express written permission. Customize For Your Needs

If you would like to discuss customizing this database for your needs, and integrating it into your current setup, please see my consulting page for details on rates and other information. While I no longer accept custom jobs that are specific to a single user, I may include your features in a future version of this template if they have mass appeal. If you do not specific, custom work just for you, visit my Access Developer Network.

Dates Conditional Formatting Upload Images   Link

Richard. I love the Project Management template. As you know, I'm an OAM (Official Access Moron) however I couldn't stop myself from purchasing the template.  So being an OAM,  I (obviously) have a question? Is there a way to use the 'dates' in the template labels (D00, D01, etc.) in a conditional formatting statement for Boxes 00 through 20, so that when that date coincides with another benchmark date I designate from my query?  I've tried a couple of times, but I not sure if the "label" data is being recognized in the conditional statements. For example, when the data in Label D00 coincides with a benchmark date of 10/1 from my query, I'd like Box00 to change color. Can that be done? And if so, how? Thanks and live long and prosper.

Yeah... you could do it, but you wouldn't need conditional formatting. Since it's just a simple block of labels in the header, adjust their .BackColor manually. You'd need an event to check if the dates shown coincide with a benchmark date, which you'd need to designate somehow in your table. It's very possible.

Richard,
I really would love to see all the tasks for one person in one row, and it would be nice to split tasks down to the hour.
But I do also have a question: I've played around with those colors and came across a limitation. What if you need more than five colors? AFAIK Access doesn't allow more than five conditional formats for one field. Any idea?

You must have an older version of Microsoft Access. Access 365 allows more. I have one database with 14 conditional formatting levels in it. Time to upgrade. :)

Similar but different to Achim's comment -- I'd like to see an adjustable timescale for the Planner view as well. In my case though, I'd like to be able to zoom out from individual days and instead see weeks. This would be helpful for projects that span a couple quarters.

Richard,
Thanks for the Project Manager 1.0 template.  I'd like to see you add the nested personnel functions so on both the TaskF and the TaskPlannerF.

I'd ultimately like to incorporate this into the Management Database we are using.  We have Contracts/Purchase orders employees are assigned to.  I'd like to be able to select the Project Name/Charge Code from a combo box, it show the start and end date then be able to select the employee from another combo box.  I would then need to be able to override the start and end dates if a specific employee was only supporting for a specific time period.
