Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Excel 231, brought to you by ExcelLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.

In today's class, we are going to cover error handling. There are lots of different ways you can deal with the different errors that Excel spits out at you from time to time.

We are going to talk about some logical functions like AND, OR, TRUE, and FALSE and all those things. We are going to learn about auditing and the auditing toolbar. We talked about it briefly back in Excel 220 and 221. We are going to go into detail on it today.

We are going to learn about circular references, how you can avoid them, and why you might sometimes want them. I have a whole bunch of little tips and tricks to show you too.

This class follows Excel 230, but you do not really need to have taken 230 to get the material in this class. The lessons in this class kind of stand on their own.

I am using Excel XP 2002 in this class. However, whatever version of Excel you have should work okay for this course. Anything from Excel 95 up to 2003 should be okay. I have not tested this lesson with 2007 yet, but from what I have seen in the 2007 books that I have here, it looks like most of this material should be okay.

Of course, while you are taking this class you can ask questions in the interactive website. If you have the Amichron Video Player open, you will see the interactive web page for this class open up in the small browser window to the right of the video if you are online.

If not, you can go to the web page on the screen, ExcelLearningZone.com?GOXL231, and that will take you right to the web page for this class. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and you will see the discussion down there.

If you do need help while you are taking this class, feel free to contact me at ExcelLearningZone.com/contact.

Summary Today's video from Excel Learning Zone focuses on handling errors in Microsoft Excel. I will walk you through the different ways Excel can generate errors and explain how you can manage them effectively.

We will look at logical functions such as AND, OR, TRUE, and FALSE. These tools are very helpful for setting up conditions and handling potential mistakes in your formulas. I will also spend some time showing you Excel's auditing features, including the auditing toolbar. If you remember, we already touched on this topic briefly in Excel 220 and 221, but in this lesson we will go much deeper.

Circular references are another important topic on the agenda. I will show you what they are, reasons you might want to avoid them, and situations where you might actually find them useful. Throughout the class, I will be sharing a variety of tips and tricks to help you handle all kinds of error situations in Excel.

While this class follows after Excel 230, the material here stands alone and you do not have to take 230 beforehand in order to understand any of the topics I am covering. The examples and explanations are designed to be useful for anyone, no matter which version of Excel you are using. I am demonstrating on Excel XP 2002, but any version from Excel 95 through 2003 should work just fine. While I have not specifically tested this course with Excel 2007, based on what I have seen in the reference materials, almost everything we will cover should work in later versions as well.

If you have questions while taking this course, you can use the interactive features of our website. The Amichron Video Player allows you to access a class web page where you can participate in discussions. If you are not online, just head over to ExcelLearningZone.com and go to the class page for XL231. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find the discussion area.

And of course, if you ever need any assistance, you can always reach me through the contact form on ExcelLearningZone.com.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
