Prerequisites include the Word 100 level courses and Word 201.TranscriptWelcome to Microsoft Word 202, brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.In today's lesson, we are going to learn about password protection, how to protect your Word documents to keep other people from viewing or modifying them. We will learn about saving your Word document in different file formats. Perhaps you have to give it to someone who is using Microsoft Word, an older version, or WordPerfect, or needs a text document, or you want to put it on a website and save it as a web page in HTML format. We will learn about Word's automatic document backup features and the Auto Recovery service. We will learn how to teach Word how to make fast saves and to allow background saving. We will learn about custom document properties, where you can save extra information in your documents, such as the title, the subject, and keywords. Then, I am going to show you how to do advanced searching for your documents if you are having trouble finding all of your documents on your hard drive. I will show you some advanced tricks for going in and searching for your documents based on their file name, the text in the document, or using any of those custom document properties. For example, if you want to search for all the documents for a particular client that were made in the month of June, you can do that with an advanced document search. Prerequisites: I strongly recommend that you take all of my Word 100 level courses and Word 201 before taking this course. In this class, I am going to use Microsoft Word 2003. Now this is new. If you have taken any of my previous Word classes, you know in the older classes, I used Word XP or 2002. In this class, I have upgraded to Word 2003. I will be pointing out the differences using Word 2000. For those of you who still have XP, you should be able to figure out the differences. I wanted to use 2003 and 2000 because they are significantly different on some of the screens, and I will show you both of them. If you are using Word XP, it is kind of a mixture between the two, and you should not have any problems figuring out what I am doing in today's class if you are using 2000, XP, or 2003. I strongly recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson through one time to see exactly what I am trying to accomplish. Then, replay the video again, following along with the examples, building each page as I do. Do not try to apply what you are learning immediately, but just watch what I am doing and then go back through it and follow along with the examples on your own. SummaryToday's video from Word Learning Zone focuses on important features in Microsoft Word 2003 that can help keep your documents secure and organized. I'll be guiding you through the process of protecting your documents with passwords, which will help prevent others from viewing or making changes you did not approve.I'll also explain how to save your documents in various file formats. Sometimes you need to share your work with someone using an older version of Word, or even a different word processor like WordPerfect. You might also want to save a plain text document or prepare your file for use on a website by saving it as HTML. I'll show you how to choose the right format for every situation. We will review Word's document backup abilities, including the Auto Recovery service. This helps make sure you do not lose your work if something unexpected happens. You'll also learn how to enable fast saves and allow background saving to improve your workflow and protect your data. Next, I will introduce you to custom document properties. These fields let you store additional information with your document such as a title, subject, and keywords. This extra data makes it much easier to keep your files organized and searchable. Finding your files can be challenging if you have lots of documents spread across your computer. I'll show you some powerful tools and advanced methods for searching by file name, document content, or any of those custom document properties you have added. For example, if you want to locate every document for a specific client created in June, I will walk you through how to set up that search quickly and accurately. Before starting this course, I strongly suggest that you have completed the Word 100 level series and Word 201, as they teach the basics you'll need for these more advanced topics. This class uses Word 2003, which is an update from my earlier classes that used Word XP (also known as Word 2002). I will point out key differences between versions, especially between Word 2000 and 2003, and I'll make sure to highlight anything that users of Word XP need to know. If you are working with Word 2000, XP, or 2003, you should be able to follow along smoothly. My advice is to watch each lesson all the way through first so you have a clear idea of what you are trying to achieve. Once you have a sense of the process, play the video again and practice each technique step by step. This approach ensures you understand the concepts thoroughly before applying them yourself. If you run into any problems or have questions, you can always reach out for assistance in our user forums. For those attending this course using our video player, you will find a convenient lesson-specific forum beside the video if you are connected to the internet. You may also visit our website to view comments and discussions for each lesson. You can find the complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions for everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
