Intro In lesson 203, we will learn about styles in Microsoft Word, including what styles are, why they are important, and how to use both built-in and custom styles. I will show you tips and tricks for working with styles, as well as how to use the Auto Format and Auto Correct features. I will be using Microsoft Word 2003, but most of the material also applies to Word 2002 and Word 2000.
Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Word 203 brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost. In today's class, we are going to learn all about styles in Microsoft Word.

We are going to learn what styles are and why we use styles, and why they are important. We are going to learn how to use Word's built-in styles, and we are going to see how to create your own custom styles, along with lots of tips and tricks about styles as we go along.

We are also going to learn about the Auto Format and Auto Correct features in Word.

This class follows Word 202. I strongly recommend you take Word 202 before taking this course.

In this class, I am going to be using Microsoft Word 2003. Most, about 99 percent of everything I am going to show you today, is valid for Word 2002 or Word XP. There are some small changes if you are using Word 2000, and I will show you some of those differences. Some of the screens are a little bit different, but most of the features as far as styles and Auto Format and Auto Correct go are pretty much the same between Word 2000 up to Word 2003.

I strongly recommend you sit back and relax and watch the video one time through without trying to do anything. Then watch the lessons a second time, following along with the examples.

I am just going to be working with a sample document in today's class. Nothing fancy, just a sample book outline. Feel free to type in a couple of paragraphs of text and follow along with my examples.

I always recommend you watch the video one time through first before you try doing anything. Just sit back and relax, see what I am doing, and get a feel for the video. Then play it a second time and follow along with me, as that is the best way to learn.

If you need help with any of the material I cover in today's class, feel free to post in my User Forms. If you are watching this class in the video player, you will see the User Form window pop up to the right if you are using Word 2000. If not, go online to the website and visit the online theater. You can also see the User Forms there.

Summary Today's video from WordLearningZone.com focuses on styles in Microsoft Word. I will explain what styles are, why they're important, and how they can make working with your documents much easier and more efficient. We'll go over not only how to use Word's built-in styles, but also how to create your own custom styles to suit your needs. Along the way, I'll share several helpful tips and tricks related to working with styles.

Additionally, this class covers Word's Auto Format and Auto Correct features so you can better streamline your workflow in Word. These features help you format your documents quickly and correct common typing errors as you work.

This course builds upon what was covered in Word 202, so I strongly suggest that you complete that class first to ensure you have the necessary background.

For this class, I'm using Microsoft Word 2003, but almost everything you'll see today is also applicable in Word 2002 or Word XP. If you're using Word 2000, there are a few differences in how some screens look or operate, but the main features for styles, Auto Format, and Auto Correct remain consistent. I'll point out any notable differences as we encounter them.

My recommendation is to watch this video all the way through once before attempting anything yourself. This gives you a solid overview and helps you understand the flow of the material. After that, watch the lessons again and follow along with the examples. This is the most effective way to learn these features.

In this session, I'll be working with a simple sample document - just a basic book outline. If you'd like, you can prepare a few paragraphs of your own text and follow along as we explore styles and formatting.

If you ever need help with any of the concepts discussed, you can always ask questions in the User Forms. If you're using Word 2000, the User Form window should appear to the right in the video player. Alternatively, visit the website to access the online theater and participate in the User Forms there.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below.

Live long and prosper, my friends.
