Having problems with your Access database? Before posting your question, check to see if it's already been answered. You can use the Search feature to look for keywords. There's also the Access Troubleshooting Checklist which covers solutions to many common problems. If neither of those things help, make sure you post exactly what you're doing, what the specific error message is, what you've tried, and any other details we might need to help you. Don't just say, "I get an error." Tell us what the error is and what you're doing. We're not mind readers. I wish. LOL

SQL Server Connection Upload Images   Link

Richard,
Not sure if you can help with this but here goes.
I created a SQL Server database (MS SQL) using the instructions in your Access X24 lesson. All good with a successful test connection.
I exported a table via ODBC and access hung with a blank screen forcing me to stop task from the Task Manager.
When I check the SQL database the table has been created with all fields, no problem.
When I try to create the link to the table via ODBC I get a list of everything in the database to choose from but not the table I just created!
I don't know what to try from this point.
Any ideas would be appreciated (a LOT!!!).
Many thanks..... Bill D.

Yeah that's a weird one. You may need to refresh the connection. I usually see this happen when I add a new field to the back-end table via the SQL Server Management Studio. Access doesn't see the new field even after refreshing the link. You have to physically delete the link to the table and then recreate it. Very weird. Without seeing what you've got going on this is very hard to diagnose. I'm actually working on the Access/SQL Server Seminar right now. Maybe there will be some tips in there for you. I'm going to be covering connecting/disconnecting to your tables using VBA.

Yep, it's a tough one. I can't delete the link to the table because I can't link to it in the first place.
Any idea as to why the blank screen and the access freeze?
I look forward to the new seminar.....
Many thanks..... Bill D.

I wish I could help, but I really can't tell from here. All I can say is the method I'm going to use in the new seminar to connect to your tables is FAR superior than the X24 method using linked tables.

Richard,
Fair enough.
I de-compiled and re-compiled the Access database, rebooted my machine, and the freeze problem went away.
The first table I created in SQL Server was empty, but tables I move across now look fine.
I guess something was corrupted along the way!!!
Thanks for taking a look anyway.... Now hurry up with the seminar!!!! I need it.
All the best...... Bill D.
