Junction Table No Duplicates Upload Images   Link

I have a junction table joining four tables.  I want to ensure there are no duplicated records of the combined four tables.

What I'm doing now:

I created a calculated field in the junction table.  The calculation is "[tbl1*1000]+[tbl2*100]+[tbl3*10]+tbl4]"...  This field is has no duplicates allowed. Read More...

I would use just use a before update event to check if the record exists myself. Use DCount and the ID criteria and if its >0 it exists.

Even easier would be to use a Composite Key

Deselect form selected boxes Upload Images   Link

In form design view I selected numerous text boxes by left clicking and touching those boxes. Now when I try to format (change width) only one of those text boxes all are selected.  Even if I go to the one specific text box properties and change width, all change. Read More...

The + sign I'm assuming is the symbol to move only that box.

Have you tried clicking off to the side where there is nothing? You can also press ctrl + click and add/remove things to the pile of items you have selected currently.

Thank you for your reply, Adam.  Unfortunately clicking to the side or trying ctrl+click did not change the condition.  The small x on the left (after selecting a text box), when pressed, selects all of the boxes that were at one time chosen.  Even right clicking the x does not appear to offer an option to turn off this feature.

I want to force the user to make a selection in a combo box (child relationship) located in the header of a single form before continuing to the detail section of the single form.  That way, it will help prevent orphaned records.   Read More...

Insert the result of a query Upload Images   Link

I have a form which uses the browse button to select the location of a photo on my hard drive and adds it to the form to show the photo. I have set up a query using Right([fieldname],12) to select the last 12 letters of the path to my photo which gives me the actual photo ID eg P2020200.jpg. The query works but how do I then place that result into another field on my form?

Are you are just displaying the file name on the form in an unbound text box or storing that value in a field in your table?

Just a suggestion - You might want to reconsider pulling just the last 12 characters.  That has the potential of creating bad data.  For instance what if you have a shorter file name? Or longer?

I can't remember if Richard covered InStrRev in the String Functions video or not.  I know it is covered in Expert 25.
Also do a search for "Get filename".

It doesn't have to be stored in the database although it currently is but manually entered which is what I was trying to avoid having to do.
I had noticed that sometimes the string was occasionally longer than 12, although most are OK and I would just manually change some if that was a real issue.
I don't remember the InstrRev in the string functions video. I will also do a search for "Get Filename"
Thank you for your advice.

Date Picker Choose 2 Dates Upload Images   Link
David Harnett

I have seen the query where you can enter two dates (eg start date and end date) and get parameter boxes asking you for the date ranges. Nice and simple, but I would prefer that the user uses a date picker rather than enter dates manually. How do I do this? Do I use two unbound text boxes on the Form and format them as ShortDate? How do I then use this date info to filter the data in the form? Read More...

Unfortunately there is not a way to use the date picker in a parameter query directly.
What you could do is create a small form with your date fields.  The draw back there is the text boxes have to be bound to a date field for the date picker to work in a form.  See Force Date Picker Only @33:16 in Quick Queries #5
See the Value From a Form for how to use the input to filter the data.

So, I thought that I had all of the kinks worked out on my computer.  I started downloading the ACCDE file to the different user computers that would be inputting data. Everything was fine until I sat down at Computer #4. Read More...

So, this is weird.  If I double click on the file from the windows folder, Access opens an gives me the above warning.  HOWEVER, if I open Access from the Start Menu, when Access opens and I double click on the recent files, the database opens without any issues.  So, I think that the problem is solved?

Action Combo Boxes Upload Images   Link

Hey Richard, I am trying to create a "Choose Action" Combo Box that I can select the Action to preform. So, is there a way to write an 'Global Module', that have all the Functions Listed, to use when I have multiple Forms that or do I have to write an individual 'VBA Code' for each Form? Please Help...
Adam Schwanz

I would think you could just send it to the combobox.

Make a global module

Public Function ComboBox (X As String)
If X = "Action1" Then
  'Do Action1
if X = "Action2" Then
  'Do Action2
End If

Then in the button or on change event, whatever you're using to trigger it, do Combobox(InsertTheComboBoxNameHere)

Report Printing attachment Upload Images   Link

I have a form with a subform, in the subform I have a filed for attachments. I used the file link process as suggested and not the actual Access attachment.

The user needs to print the form and subform which I have created a report for without issue. However the attachment in the subform needs to be printed at the same time. Is there a possible automation for this or does the user have to manually print the attachment? Read More...

That would definitely be possible but will require that you use some VBA.
If you don't already have it look at the Open Other Programs
Sounds like you are about 3/4 there.

Allow blank value in combo box Upload Images   Link
Brad Bogle

I'm sure this is an easy problem to fix but i seem to be missing the solution. I have several combo boxes in my forms that are getting data from various tables. The fields inside the tables are set to NO on REQUIRED but the forms will not allow me to leave the Combo Boxes blank. I get an ERROR message saying that required information is needed for "X" Table. Is there a validation rule I need to enter in the properties field? Or am I overlooking something else? Thanks in advance

Does the Field that you are binding the combobox to, take a number?

Idea
UNION 0 "Blank"

Yes. I have the Field ID hidden with only the Field Name showing but its populating the ID field
