Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 2, brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.

In today's class, we are going to begin by learning about the different kinds of Word Views, such as Print Layout View, Draft View, Fullscreen Reading, Web Layout, and Outline View.

Then, we will do some more work with the Font group. We will learn about the different underlining styles, superscript and subscript, how to use the Highlighter Pen, the Change Case button, and the Clear Formatting button.

Then we will spend a lot of time with the Paragraph group. In the previous class, we learned how to align text, left, center, and right. Today, we will learn about full justification, line spacing, adding space before and after a paragraph, increase and decrease indent, and the indentation of a paragraph. We will learn about paragraph borders, paragraph shading, and how to turn borders and shading back off.

We will also spend more time with Bullets. I will teach you how to customize your bulleted list, and we will see how to create numbered lists and multi-level lists. You will also learn how to sort those lists.

Next, we will work with Styles. We will learn what Styles are and why they are important. We will see how to change our Style Sets, our Color Sets, our Font Sets, and change the theme of the document. We will also learn how to work with the Format Painter.

We will work with the Find and Replace features to find text in our document and replace it with other text. I will teach you how to use a nifty feature called Shrink 1 Page, which will take your document and squeeze it down by one more page. That is good if you have some remnants left over on the next page.

This lesson uses Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or earlier, then you should visit my website and look for my Word Tutorials that cover these older versions.

Before taking this course, it is strongly recommended that you take Word 2007 Basic 1. In that class, you will learn about the Word Interface, entering and editing text, formatting text, using the clipboard, saving and loading your documents, and printing and emailing.

This is the Basic Level 2 course for Microsoft Word 2007. This class is for the novice user, who has little or no experience with Microsoft Word beyond my level 1 class. My Basic courses are designed for novice users who are new to Microsoft Word and just need to learn basic functionality. You will learn one good method for accomplishing tasks, and we will save all the extraneous details and options for later.

My Expert Series is for users who are comfortable with Word and who want to learn more about the standard features and functions that most people use. We will cover a lot of options, alternatives, shortcuts, tips and tricks, and really cover all the features of Word exhaustively.

The Advanced Series is designed to teach you all the lesser-known features of Word, such as recording macros and creating data forms. These are features that not everyone uses on a daily basis, but they can really add power to your documents.

Finally, my Developer Series is designed to teach you how to program in Visual Basic for Applications with Microsoft Word to develop Word-based programs for your users, integrate Word with other office applications, and much more.

Each of my series is broken down into different levels. For example, the Basic Series started with level 1, then was followed by level 2, that is this class, next will be level 3, and so on. Each level teaches you new and different topics in Microsoft Word, building on the lessons learned in the previous levels.

Now let us take a more detailed look at what we are going to cover in today's class.

In lesson 1, we are going to set up our document for today's class. I will show you how to insert random text into Microsoft Word using a function. Then we will see the different document views in Word, including draft, print layout, full screen reading, web layout, and outline mode.

In lesson 2, we are going to learn more about the font group on the home tab. We are going to learn about underline, the different underline styles, subscript and superscript, the highlighter pen, the change case button, and the clear formatting button.

In lesson 3, we are going to spend some time with the paragraph group. We are going to learn how to align text left, center it, and align text to the right. We will also learn about full justification, line spacing, selecting the entire document with one keystroke, and how to add or remove space around a paragraph.

In lesson 4, we are going to continue working with the paragraph group. We are going to talk about increase and decrease indent, and paragraph borders and shading.

In lesson 5, we are going to finish up with the paragraph group. We will do some more with bullets. We will work with the bullet library, numbered lists, the numbering library, multi-level lists, and sorting lists and paragraphs.

In lesson 6, we are going to learn about styles. First, we are going to see how the format painter works. Then we are going to learn all about styles. What is a style? Why are they good? Why are they better than using the format painter? We will learn about the normal, heading one, and title styles.

In lesson 7, we are going to continue working with styles. We are going to see how to change the style set, the color set, the font set. We will also see how to change the document's theme and work with the built-in theme sets.

In lesson 8, we are going to learn about find and replace. We will take a look at the editing group, the find, find next, and reading highlight functions. Then we will learn how to replace text in our document using replace and replace all.

In lesson 9, we are going to learn how to shrink our document one page by using the shrink to fit feature.

If you need help with Microsoft Word, you can post your questions in our student forums. If you are watching this course using our video player software or in our online theater, then you should see the student forum pop up next to each video. Here you will see a list of all the comments and questions posted about each lesson in addition to my responses to them. Feel free to join in the discussion and post your own thoughts.

To get the most out of this course, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson through once without touching your computer. Then watch the lesson a second time following along with my examples. Take the time to actually create the same document that I do. You will get the most out of the lessons if you follow along with me. If you do not understand something, feel free to watch the lesson again or rewind to any point in the video.

Most importantly, keep an open mind. New things are often confusing. If there is something you do not understand at first, that is fine. Just be patient and it will come to you eventually. Try your best and if you still have problems, post them in the student forum.

Summary Today's video from Word Learning Zone is focused on Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 2. I am Richard Rost, and I'll be walking you through a variety of practical skills to help you become more comfortable and proficient with Word 2007.

In this class, we begin by examining the different view options that Word offers. These include Print Layout, Draft, Full Screen Reading, Web Layout, and Outline View. Understanding these views is important for choosing the best display for the type of work you're doing.

We'll then move on to build upon what you already know about the Font group. This time, we'll look a little deeper at the various underline styles, superscript and subscript formatting, using the highlighter pen, changing the case of your text with the Change Case button, and how to clear existing text formatting quickly.

A large portion of today's lesson will focus on the Paragraph group. Previously, you learned how to align text left, right, or center. Now, you'll learn about full justification, adjusting line spacing, and adding or removing space before and after paragraphs. We'll cover how to increase or decrease indentations and how to work with paragraph borders and shading, as well as how to remove those settings if necessary.

We'll also spend time on lists. I'll explain how to customize bullet points, create numbered and multi-level lists, and how to sort them. You'll see how easy it is to maintain lists in Word for different types of documents.

The next subject is Styles. You'll learn what styles are, why they are worth using, and how to modify style sets, color sets, and font sets. We'll also look at changing the overall theme of your document and see how the Format Painter can help copy styles easily.

We'll review the Find and Replace functions, so you can locate and update text throughout your document efficiently. I'll show you a helpful feature called Shrink 1 Page, which can squeeze your document onto one less page when possible.

This course is made for Word 2007. If you happen to use Word 2003 or an earlier version, I recommend checking my website for tutorials that cover those editions.

If you haven't taken Word 2007 Basic Level 1 yet, I strongly suggest starting there. That course introduces the Word interface, how to enter and edit text, work with the clipboard, save, load, print, and email documents. The Basic Level 2 course is designed for those with little or no experience beyond what is covered in Level 1. My Basic series always focuses on one good way to accomplish things, saving advanced details for later levels.

Beyond the Basic Series, I also offer Expert and Advanced Series. The Expert Series is for users familiar with Word and wanting to get the most out of its core features and options, including many tips and shortcuts. The Advanced Series gets into lesser-known features like macros and data forms, which provide added power when you need it. For users interested in programming, the Developer Series teaches how to use Visual Basic for Applications with Word to automate tasks, create solutions, and integrate with other Office programs.

Every series is divided into multiple levels. For Basic, you start with Level 1, today we're on Level 2, and the next class will be Level 3. Each builds on what was covered before, so it's always a good idea to follow them in order.

Here's a brief preview of what we'll cover in today's lessons:

Lesson 1 is about setting up your document, including how to insert random text with a simple function, and a close look at all the different document views from draft to outline.

Lesson 2 walks through the Font group on the Home tab: different underline styles, subscript and superscript, the highlighter pen, the Change Case button, and clearing formatting.

Lesson 3 continues with the Paragraph group, covering alignment, full justification, line spacing, how to select your entire document in one step, and adding or removing space around paragraphs.

Lesson 4 continues the Paragraph group, focusing on increasing and decreasing indent, and adding borders and shading to paragraphs.

Lesson 5 wraps up the Paragraph group with bullets and lists: using the bullet and numbering libraries, creating multi-level lists, and sorting lists and paragraphs.

Lesson 6 gets into Styles. First, you'll see the Format Painter in action, then we'll discuss what styles are and why they're better than just copying formatting. You'll work with normal, heading one, and title styles.

Lesson 7 goes further with Styles, showing you how to change the stylesheet, color set, font set, and document theme, as well as use the built-in theme sets.

Lesson 8 focuses on Find and Replace. You'll use the editing group to find text, highlight results, and make replacements quickly and efficiently.

Lesson 9 introduces Shrink to Fit, which lets you compress your document by one page if you've got just a few paragraphs flowing onto a new sheet.

If you need help or have questions about Microsoft Word, remember you can use the student forums on my website. These are available alongside each lesson if you're watching through our video player or online theater. You'll see not only my responses but those of your fellow students as well.

To get the best results from this course, I recommend you first watch each lesson all the way through before touching your computer. Then, watch again, this time following along and creating the same documents I do. That hands-on practice is very important. If something doesn't make sense the first time, don't worry, just re-watch or pause and rewind. And use the forums if you get stuck.

Most importantly, be patient with yourself. Learning new skills can be challenging at first, and it's perfectly fine if everything doesn't come together immediately. Keep trying, and you'll get there.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.

Article Welcome to this basic-level tutorial for Microsoft Word, designed for users who are new to Word or who have only mastered the most essential features. In this lesson, we will focus on getting comfortable with Word's most common tools, working through text formatting, paragraph management, list organization, styles, and document review features. Each concept will be explained in a straightforward, step-by-step manner to help you become more productive and confident with your documents.

We will begin by exploring the different ways you can view your document. Word offers several views, including print layout, draft, full screen reading, web layout, and outline. For example, print layout view lets you see how your document will appear when printed, a helpful option for formatting. Draft view gives you a simplified look, focusing more on text and less on formatting details. Full screen reading view is great for reviewing your work without distractions, and web layout shows you how your document would look as a webpage. Outline view helps you organize and navigate large documents by showing a structured outline of headings.

Next, we will look at ways to enhance your text using the font tools found on the home tab. You probably already know how to make text bold, italic, or underlined, but Word lets you go further. You can choose from different underlining styles, from a simple single line to double lines, dotted underlines, or even colored underlines. Superscript and subscript formatting allow you to position text slightly above or below the baseline. For example, superscript is useful for writing exponents like x2, while subscript is used for things like H2O. Another great tool is the highlighter pen, which lets you emphasize text to make it stand out. Simply select the text, click the highlighter, and choose a color. If you want to change capital and lowercase letters quickly, use the change case button. You can switch between sentence case, lowercase, uppercase, capitalize each word, or toggle case. If you have made a lot of formatting changes and want to start over, the clear formatting button removes all styles and reverts your selection to the default.

We will now focus on formatting paragraphs. Word makes it easy to align your text left, center, right, or fully justified. Left alignment is standard for most documents, while centering is good for headings, and right alignment is often used for special situations. Full justification aligns text evenly along both the left and right margins, giving your paragraphs a clean block look. Adjusting line spacing helps with readability. By default, Word sets single line spacing, but you can easily change this to 1.5 or double spacing as needed. If you want to make quick changes to the spacing around a paragraph, use the options to add space before or after. You can also change indentation, either increasing it to create a block quote or decreasing it to return the paragraph to the margin. To apply borders or shading to a paragraph, select the paragraph and choose your border or shading options. This adds visual emphasis, such as drawing a box or highlighting a background color. If you change your mind, you can remove borders and shading with the same menu.

Lists are another powerful tool in Word. You can organize information with bullets, numbers, or multi-level structures. To create a bulleted list, click the bullets button and start typing your items. You can customize bullets using images or symbols. Numbered lists are useful for ordered tasks or steps, and you can pick different numbering formats as needed. Multi-level lists let you nest items, which is helpful for outlines or hierarchies. If you want to rearrange your list items or sort text alphabetically, select the list and use the sort function.

Styles are one of the most important features in Word, but often overlooked by beginners. A style is a predefined set of formatting instructions for text and paragraphs, such as font, size, color, and spacing. For example, the Normal style is the default for paragraphs, while Heading 1 and Title give you distinct formatting for main headings or document titles. Using styles instead of manual formatting makes your document easier to update and ensures consistency. If you want to quickly apply the format of one section to another, use the format painter. Simply select the text with the desired format, click the format painter, then highlight the target text to apply the same look. Beyond individual styles, you can also change the entire style set, color set, or font set for your document. This allows you to quickly alter the document's look and feel while maintaining professional design standards. The themes feature lets you select from coordinated sets of fonts, colors, and effects for a unified appearance.

Find and Replace is another must-know feature. If you need to locate specific words or phrases in your document, use the Find feature. This highlights each instance, allowing you to step through every occurrence. With Replace, you can automatically swap one word or phrase for another throughout the document. Replace All will make every change at once, which is useful for correcting repeated errors or updating terminology.

Sometimes, your document runs just a line or two onto a new page. Word provides a Shrink One Page feature, which automatically tightens up the formatting just enough to fit the content onto one fewer page. This is especially helpful when printing, as it avoids wasting paper or leaving pages with only a few lines.

As you work through this tutorial, it is a good idea to practice each step in Word by creating or editing a document as you read. Try out the different views, experiment with font and paragraph formatting, practice creating bulleted and numbered lists, and apply styles. Use Find and Replace with sample text, and test the Shrink feature when your document is more than one page.

If you have questions or run into issues, do not hesitate to seek out online discussion forums or help resources. Practicing these tools and techniques will give you a solid foundation for working with Word, and set the stage for more advanced features like macros, data forms, or automating tasks with Visual Basic for Applications code. Taking the time to learn these basics will make you much more efficient and effective in your everyday document work.
