This lesson uses Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or earlier, then you should visit my website and look for my Word 2 Tools that covered these older versions. This class follows Word 2007 Basic Level 2. In that class, we cover Word Views, Font Group Commands, Paragraph Formatting, the Format Painter, Styles and the Style Gallery, Find Replace and Shrink to Fit. It is strongly recommended that you take Level 2 before taking this class. If you do not know how to do any of the things I just mentioned, you really should consider taking Level 2 first. This is the Basic Level 3 course from Microsoft Word 2007. This class is for the novice user who has little or no experience with Word beyond my Level 1 and 2 classes. My basic courses are designed for novice users who are new to Microsoft Word and just need to learn basic functionality. You will learn one good method for accomplishing most tasks, and we will save all the extraneous details for later. The Expert Series is designed for users who are more comfortable with Word and want to learn more about the standard features and functions that most people use. We cover a lot of options, alternatives, shortcuts, tips and tricks, and really cover all the features of Word exhaustively. Our Advanced Series is designed to teach you all the lesser-known features of Word, such as recording macros and creating data forms. These are features that not everyone uses on a daily basis but can really add power to your documents. Finally, the Developer Series is designed to teach you how to program in Visual Basic for Applications with Microsoft Word, to develop Word-based programs for your users, integrate Word with other Office applications, and so much more. Each of my series is broken down into different levels. For example, the basic series started with Level 1, then Level 2, now Level 3 - that is this class - next will come Level 4 and 5 and so on. Each level teaches you new and different topics in Microsoft Word, building on the lessons learned in previous levels. Now let us take a more detailed look at what we are going to learn today. In lesson 1, we are going to learn about page setup. We are going to study the Page Layout tab in the Page Setup group. We are going to learn margins, page orientation, paper size, and columns. In lesson 2, continuing with page setup, we are going to learn about page breaks, deleting page breaks, and column breaks. In lesson 3, we are going to learn about line numbering, automatic hyphenation, and how to give our newsletter that newspaper column look. In lesson 4, we are going to learn about different page background options, such as creating a watermark, changing the page color, and setting up page borders. In lesson 5, we are going to study paragraph layout. We are going to learn more about indenting, fine-tuning our indents, right side indents, and we are going to see how to manipulate the spacing before and after our paragraphs. In lesson 6, we are going to move to the Insert tab and look at the Pages group. I am going to show you the cover page gallery, how to insert a complete blank page, and another page break button. In lesson 7, we are going to learn about inserting hyperlinks, automatic hyperlinks that Word inserts for you, manual hyperlinks that we will create ourselves, hyperlinks to web pages, email addresses, documents, files on your hard drive, and files on your network, and more. In lesson 8, we are going to learn how to insert a header and a footer for each page in our document. We are also going to learn about page numbering, so you can see page 1, page 2, and so on. In lesson 9, we are going to learn the basics of tables. I am going to teach you how to insert a table into your document. We will see how to use the table styles gallery, changing the table colors, data entry, how to insert and delete rows and columns, and manipulate cell alignment. If you need help with Microsoft Word, you can post your questions in our student forums. If you are watching this course using our video player software or in our online theater, then you should see the student forum pop up next to each video. Here you will see all the comments and questions posted about each lesson, in addition to my responses to them. Feel free to join in the discussion and post your own thoughts. To get the most out of this course, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson once through without touching your computer. Then watch the lesson a second time following along with my examples. Take the time to actually create the same document that I do. You will get the most out of the lessons if you follow along with me. If you do not understand something, feel free to watch the lesson again or rewind to any point in the video. Most importantly, keep an open mind. New things are often confusing. If there is something you do not understand at first, that is okay. Just be patient and it will come to you eventually. Try your best, and if you still have questions, post them in the student forum. IntroWelcome to Microsoft Word Basic Level 3. SummaryToday's video from Word Learning Zone is focused on Microsoft Word 2007, Basic Level 3. I am your instructor, Richard Rost. In this class, my goal is to help novice users build on the skills learned in the previous levels. This course is ideal for those who have completed my Level 1 and Level 2 Word training and are ready for the next step. We start off by covering page setup in detail. I will take you through the Page Layout tab where you will learn how to set margins, adjust paper size, choose orientation, work with columns, insert page breaks, and set up line numbers and hyphenation. Proper page setup is essential for professional and clean-looking documents, so we will make sure you understand all of these features. Next, we will explore page backgrounds. This includes adding watermarks, setting page colors, and applying borders. Each of these tools helps you visually separate and enhance your documents. We will then move on to organizing your paragraphs. Here, I will teach you about indenting your text from both the left and right, fine-tuning those indents, and modifying the spacing before and after paragraphs. Learning how to format paragraphs cleanly makes a big difference in document readability. Following that, we will look at inserting pages. This means using the cover page gallery to add a professional cover, and learning how to insert blank pages exactly where you need them in your document. Hyperlinks are another important topic. You will see how Word automatically creates hyperlinks, and you will learn how to add your own - whether to websites, email addresses, or files on your computer or network. Headers and footers are an essential part of any professional document. We will talk about where the header and footer sections are, how to use the style gallery, and how to edit them manually. You will also learn how to add and customize page numbers throughout your document. Working with tables is critical for organizing data. I will explain how to insert tables, work with rows and columns, and use cell alignment. We will also cover how to resize rows and columns manually and use the table styles gallery to change the appearance of your tables. If you are using an earlier version of Word, like 2003 or older, visit my website for courses specifically aimed at those editions. We are focusing here on 2007, which has a new interface you may find quite different. For those who may have missed my previous classes, Level 2 covers several important basics such as changing Word views, using the font group, working with paragraph formatting, Format Painter, Styles, Find and Replace, and Shrink to Fit. I highly recommend you complete Level 2 first if you have not already, so you will not feel lost during this session. My basic series is designed for those who are new to Microsoft Word and want to master the fundamental skills. Each level builds logically on the previous one, introducing more advanced concepts as you progress. As you advance through my courses, you will eventually reach the Expert and Advanced series, which cover even more features, darker corners of Word, and how to use tools like macros and data forms. The Developer series goes further by teaching you how to program with Visual Basic for Applications, giving you the power to automate and customize Word extensively. For this class, here is how the lessons are structured: Lesson 1 focuses on the Page Setup group in the Page Layout tab. Here, you will learn everything about margins, page orientation, paper size, and columns. Lesson 2 continues with page setup, teaching you about manual and automatic page breaks, as well as column breaks. Lesson 3 covers line numbering, automatic hyphenation, and formatting your document to look like a newspaper with columns. Lesson 4 looks at page backgrounds, so you can add watermarks, change page colors, and add page borders. Lesson 5 addresses paragraph layout in detail. You will learn advanced indenting, right side indents, and adjusting the space around paragraphs. Lesson 6 moves to the Insert tab, showing you how to use the cover page gallery, insert blank pages, and use another method for adding page breaks. Lesson 7 is all about hyperlinks. You will see both the automatic hyperlinks Word creates and how to manually add links to websites, email addresses, and files. Lesson 8 explains headers and footers, including how to add page numbers and customize your document's top and bottom sections. Lesson 9 is your introduction to tables. You will learn how to insert and format tables, use the style gallery, adjust colors, enter data, add or delete rows and columns, and set cell alignment. If at any point you need help, I encourage you to visit our student forums. You can ask questions, see what others have posted, and read my responses. Participating in these forums is a great way to deepen your learning. To get the most from this course, I recommend watching each lesson through once without interruption. Then, go back and follow along on your own computer, creating and editing documents as I demonstrate. Practice is essential for mastering these skills. If something is confusing, do not hesitate to rewatch the lesson or post your questions in the forums. Remember, everyone learns at their own pace. The important thing is to keep an open mind, be patient with yourself, and keep practicing. If you are ready to move on after Level 3, I offer additional advanced and expert courses that go even deeper into Word's functionality, as well as programming and integration with other Office applications. You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends. In this lesson, we will delve into several important features that will help you create well-organized and professional documents. Whether you are new to Word or just looking to brush up on the basics, these instructions will guide you step by step. Let's start with page setup. To configure your page, look for the Page Layout tab at the top of the screen. Here, you can adjust margins which control the blank space around the edges of your document. You can select preset margins or customize your own depending on your needs. Page orientation determines whether your document is in portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) format, and you can switch between these to suit your content. Paper size is also customizable, letting you choose from common sizes like letter or legal, or set your own dimensions. Additionally, the columns feature allows you to split your text into two or more sections, which is particularly useful when creating newsletters or brochures. As you work with longer documents, you might find the need to control where one page ends and another begins. This is where page breaks come in handy. By inserting a page break, you can ensure that the next section of your text starts on a new page. If you are working with columns, you can also insert a column break to force text to move to the next column. If you make a mistake or need to reorganize your document, you can easily delete page and column breaks as needed. For certain types of documents, such as legal agreements or academic papers, adding line numbers can be helpful for reference purposes. Word allows you to quickly enable automatic line numbering, so each line is numbered down the left margin. Another helpful feature is automatic hyphenation, which helps keep your text neatly aligned and prevents awkward word breaks at the end of lines. These features are especially useful when you want to give your document a polished, newspaper-style layout. Customizing the background of your page can enhance the appearance of your document and make it stand out. For security or branding purposes, you might want to add a watermark, such as "Confidential" or your company logo, which appears faintly behind the text. You can also change the page color to something other than white, and add decorative page borders to frame the content. Paragraph layout is also essential for a clean document. Indenting the first line of each paragraph, or indenting the entire paragraph from the left or right, can improve readability. You can fine-tune these indents by dragging markers on the ruler or by entering specific measurements in the paragraph settings. Adjusting the space before and after each paragraph creates clear separation between ideas and helps prevent the text from looking crowded. When you are ready to add structure to your document, you can insert additional pages. You will usually find options to add a cover page from a gallery of templates or simply insert a blank page anywhere you need it. This is especially helpful for reports or booklets that require separate title pages or chapter breaks. Hyperlinks are another powerful tool. Word will automatically detect web addresses and email addresses and turn them into clickable hyperlinks. You can also create your own hyperlinks manually, linking to web pages, email addresses, other documents on your computer, or shared files on your network. Simply highlight the text you want to use as the link, right-click, and select the hyperlink option to set this up. Headers and footers are sections at the top and bottom of each page where you can insert additional information such as document titles, dates, or author names. Word provides a gallery of styles for headers and footers, or you can edit them manually. Adding page numbers here is a common practice for multi-page documents. Word makes it easy to automatically add and format page numbers so that each page is labeled in sequence. Working with tables can greatly improve the organization of information in your documents. To insert a table, use the Insert tab and specify the number of rows and columns you need. Once the table is in place, you can easily add or remove rows and columns as your data changes. Word offers a variety of table styles so you can quickly apply color schemes and effects. You can also adjust how text sits inside each cell, align the content, and manually resize rows and columns by dragging the borders. If you want to practice these skills, it is helpful to follow along with these instructions by creating a new Word document and experimenting with each feature. For example, try setting up a page with custom margins and two columns, then add a page break and insert a cover page. Play around with different watermarks and borders, and practice inserting hyperlinks to your favorite website or to a file saved on your computer. Add a table with three columns and several rows, change its style, and insert some sample data. Remember, becoming comfortable with Word takes some hands-on practice. Do not hesitate to experiment with different options as you build your documents. If you encounter something you do not understand, try exploring the help feature inside Word for more details, or seek out reputable user forums and support communities where you can ask specific questions. The most important thing is to stay patient and keep practicing. Over time, these tasks will become second nature, and you will be able to create professional, polished documents with confidence.
