Transcript Welcome to Word 2007 Basic Level 4, brought to you by WordLearningZone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost. Today's class is all about illustrations.

We are going to learn about pictures, clip art, shapes, text boxes, smart art, charts, and word art. A lot of these topics have similar features. For example, we are going to learn how to insert, move, resize, and rotate all these different objects. We are going to learn about text wrapping to get the text to wrap around the object. We will learn about brightness, contrast, and how to recolor an object. We will learn about different effects, like shadows and 3D effects. We will learn how to change the borders and fill of these different objects. We will also learn how to integrate all these different objects into your documents.

This lesson uses Microsoft Office Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003 or earlier, then you should visit my website and look for my Word tutorials that cover these older versions. The lesson on charting is going to require Excel 2007. If you do not have Excel 2007, that is fine. The majority of the topics in this lesson do not require Excel. However, the lesson on charting will use Excel 2007.

Before taking this course, it is strongly recommended that you take Word 2007 Basic 3, and of course Basic 1 and 2 before that. In Basic 3, we learn about page setup, paragraph layout, insert pages, hyperlinks, headers and footers, page numbering, and tables. If you do not know how to do any of the things I just mentioned, you should really consider taking Basic 3 before this course.

This is the Basic Level 4 course from Microsoft Word 2007. This class is for the novice user who has little or no experience with Microsoft Word, beyond my Level 1, 2, and 3 classes. My Basic courses are designed for novice users who are new to Microsoft Word and just need to learn basic functionality. You will learn one good method for accomplishing most tasks and will save all of the extraneous details for later.

My Expert series is for users who are comfortable with Word and want to learn more about the standard features and functions that most people use. We will cover a lot of the options, alternatives, shortcuts, tips and tricks, and really cover all the features of Word exhaustively.

The Advanced series is designed to teach you all the lesser known features of Word such as recording macros and creating data forms. These are features that not everyone uses on a daily basis, but can really add power to your documents.

Finally, the Developer series is designed to teach you how to program in Visual Basic for Applications with Microsoft Word, to develop Word-based programs for your users and integrate Word with other Office applications and so much more.

Each of these series is broken down into different levels. For example, the Basic series started with Level 1, then followed by Level 2, 3, and 4 (that is this class). Next is Level 5 and so on. Each level teaches you new and different topics in Microsoft Word, building on lessons learned in the previous levels.

Now let's take a more detailed look at what we are going to learn in today's class.

In Lesson 1, we are going to learn about inserting pictures. We will learn about the sample pictures folder, inserting a picture into our document, resizing and deleting a picture, moving the picture, text wrapping to get the text to wrap around the picture, positioning the picture on the page, and rotating the picture.

In Lesson 2, we are going to continue working with pictures. I am going to teach you how to get a picture from pretty much any website and save that picture to your desktop. Then you can insert that picture into your Word documents.

In Lesson 3, we are going to learn about brightness and contrast with our pictures, the picture styles gallery, and how to change the picture shape, border, and effects.

In Lesson 4, we are going to learn about clip art. I am going to show you how to insert clip art. We are going to find clip art by searching by keyword or browsing by category. We will learn about the Microsoft Clip Organizer, and I will show you how to recolor clip art once you get it into your document.

In Lesson 5, we are going to learn about shapes and text boxes. We are going to start with inserting shapes like a rectangle, the Drawing Tools ribbon bar, the shape styles gallery, shadow effects, 3D effects, then I will show you how to add text to any shape and create text boxes.

In Lesson 6, we are going to learn about smart art. I will show you how to insert smart art. We will look at one specifically called a basic chevron process. I will show you the different smart art layouts and styles, how to add other items, shape styles, and deleting smart art, which can be tricky.

In Lesson 7, we are going to look at charts. I am going to show you how to insert a chart into your Word document, change the chart type, enter data for the chart using Microsoft Excel. We will look at the chart style gallery, and I will show you how to move and resize your charts.

In Lesson 8, we are going to learn about WordArt. WordArt is taking a word and turning it into a piece of art. I will show you how to insert WordArt into your document. We will look at the WordArt gallery, the spacing of the letters in the WordArt, changing the WordArt styles, the border, and the shape of the WordArt.

If you need help with Microsoft Word, you can post your questions in our student forums. If you are watching this course using our video player software or an online theater, then you should see the student forum pop up next to each video. Here you will see all the comments and questions posted about each lesson, in addition to my own responses to them. Feel free to join in the discussion and post your own thoughts.

To get the most out of this course, I recommend you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson through once without touching your computer. Then, watch the lesson a second time, following along with my examples. Take the time to actually create the same document that I do. You will get the most out of these lessons if you follow along with me.

If you do not understand something, feel free to watch the lesson again or rewind to any point in the video. Most importantly, keep an open mind. New things can often be confusing. If there is something you do not understand at first, that is fine. Just be patient. It will come to you eventually. Try your best, and if you still have questions, post them in the student forum.

Summary Today's video from Word Learning Zone covers the basics of working with illustrations in Microsoft Word 2007. I am Richard Rost, your instructor for this course. This lesson is part of my Basic Level 4 series for Word, and we will be focusing on pictures, clip art, shapes, text boxes, smart art, charts, and WordArt. Many of these objects have similar features, and throughout this class, I will show you how to insert, move, resize, and rotate these items within your document. We will also be working with text wrapping to control how text flows around your images and illustrations. You will learn how to adjust brightness and contrast, recolor objects, and apply visual effects such as shadows and 3D styles. I will also demonstrate how to change borders and fills for these various elements and teach you how to blend them all into your documents effectively.

We are focusing on Microsoft Office Word 2007 for this lesson. If you are using an earlier version like Word 2003, I recommend checking out my tutorials specifically for those older versions on my website. The section on creating charts will require Excel 2007, but if you do not have Excel, do not worry. Most of the lessons do not require it. Charting is the only segment that depends on Excel 2007.

Before starting this course, I strongly suggest that you have already completed Word 2007 Basic 1, 2, and 3. In Level 3, we cover important features like page setup, paragraph layout, inserting pages, hyperlinks, headers and footers, page numbering, and working with tables. If you are not familiar with these features, please go through those lessons first to get the most out of this class.

The Basic Level 4 course is aimed at novice users. If you are new to Microsoft Word and looking to build a solid foundation, you are in the right place. We focus on straightforward, practical ways to handle most tasks and leave the more advanced details for future classes. My Expert series is designed for those who feel comfortable with Word's basic operations and want to start learning all of the options, alternative methods, handy shortcuts, and usage tips for common features. The Advanced series goes deeper into the lesser known aspects of Word, such as recording macros and developing data forms, which can really enhance productivity. There is also a Developer series for users interested in creating programs in Visual Basic for Applications and connecting Word with other Office applications.

All of my series, including the Basic series, are broken into different levels. Each level builds on the previous one. For example, Basic Level 1 is followed by 2, then 3, then today's Level 4, and so on. Every new level teaches you additional skills to expand what you have already learned.

Here is what we will cover today:

Lesson 1 focuses on adding pictures to your documents. I will walk you through using the sample pictures folder, inserting images, resizing and deleting them, moving pictures around, wrapping text, positioning pictures on the page, and rotating them.

Lesson 2 covers obtaining pictures from websites, saving those images to your computer, and inserting them into Word.

Lesson 3 is all about adjusting brightness and contrast, using the picture styles gallery, and changing the shape, borders, and effects for your images.

Lesson 4 introduces clip art. I will show you how to insert clip art, search by keyword or category, use the Microsoft Clip Organizer, and adjust clip art colors once it is part of your document.

Lesson 5 deals with shapes and text boxes. We will start by inserting simple shapes like rectangles, customizing them with the Drawing Tools and shape styles gallery, and adding shadow and 3D effects. I will also demonstrate how to add text to any shape and how to create text boxes.

Lesson 6 focuses on SmartArt. I will show you how to insert SmartArt, especially the basic chevron process, and explain the different layouts, styles, and how to add or remove items. Removing SmartArt can be a little tricky, so I will guide you through that as well.

In Lesson 7, we are working with charts. You will learn how to insert a chart in your document, change the chart type, enter chart data in Excel, and use the chart style gallery. I will also cover how to move and resize your charts.

Lesson 8 is about WordArt, which allows you to turn words into creative art. I will show you how to add WordArt, use the gallery, modify letter spacing, apply different styles, and change borders and shapes.

If at any point you need help, you are welcome to post your questions in our student forums. For those watching with our video player or online, the student forum will be visible next to each video so you can see other students' comments and questions along with my responses. Join in with your own observations or questions whenever you like.

To get the most from this lesson, I recommend first watching each section all the way through without using your computer. Then, go back and watch again while following along step by step. Creating the same document as I do during the lesson gives you better hands-on experience.

If you find something hard to understand, feel free to rewind and watch sections again. Learning new skills can feel confusing at first, but with some patience and practice, things start to make sense. Ask questions in the student forum if you need clarification.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.

Article Welcome to this tutorial on using illustrations in Microsoft Word. Understanding how to work with illustrations will allow you to create more engaging and professional-looking documents. In this lesson, I will guide you through adding pictures, clip art, shapes, text boxes, smart art, charts, and word art to your documents. We will cover how to insert these objects, move and resize them, rotate them, and adjust how text wraps around them. I will also show you how to edit properties like brightness, contrast, borders, and effects, and how to use features like shadows and 3D effects.

Let us begin by talking about pictures. To insert a picture, use the Insert tab, select Picture, and choose an image from your computer. Once inserted, you can click on the picture to reveal handles around the edges. Drag these handles to resize the image. If you want to move the picture, simply click and drag it to a new location. To rotate the picture, use the rotation handle at the top of the image. To wrap text around your picture, select the picture, then use the Text Wrapping or Wrap Text option from the formatting toolbar. Choose an option like Square or Tight to see the difference in how text flows around your image. If you decide to remove the picture, click on it and press the Delete key.

Sometimes you might want to use an image from a website. To do this, right-click on the image in your browser and choose Save As to save it to your desktop or another folder. Then, insert it into your Word document just like any other picture.

Once you have added a picture, you can modify its appearance. Select the image, then look for the Picture Tools or Format tab. Here you will see options to change brightness and contrast. Experiment with these controls to make your image look its best. You also have access to the Picture Styles gallery, which provides quick ways to add borders, shadow effects, or even change the shape of your image by making it, for example, circular instead of rectangular. If you want to put a border around your image or add effects like 3D shadow, these options are also available in the Format tab.

Next, let us talk about clip art. Clip art refers to ready-made images you can use in your document. To insert clip art, go to the Insert tab and select Clip Art. A pane will appear where you can enter keywords to search for specific images or browse by category. Once you find an item you like, click on it to add it to your document. You can move, resize, or edit clip art the same way as regular pictures. Word also comes with a Clip Organizer to help you manage your collection. Once your clip art is in place, you can recolor it using the format options to better fit the look of your document.

Shapes are another way to add visual interest to your documents. To insert a shape, go to the Insert tab and choose Shapes, then select from rectangles, circles, arrows, and more. After you draw a shape by clicking and dragging on the page, the Drawing Tools or Format tab will appear. Here you can change the fill color, outline color, and add effects like shadows or 3D formatting. If you want to add text to a shape, right-click it and choose Add Text. You can also insert a text box from the Shapes menu or by using the dedicated Text Box option. Text boxes are useful for highlighting specific pieces of text or creating elements like pull quotes.

SmartArt is another feature that lets you insert professional graphics to represent processes, relationships, and other ideas. Choose SmartArt from the Insert tab, then select from options such as lists, processes, and organizational charts. For example, the Basic Chevron Process is a great way to display steps in a process. Once you have inserted a SmartArt graphic, you can add or remove steps, change the layout, and apply different styles from the SmartArt Tools tab. Deleting SmartArt is done by selecting it and pressing the Delete key, but be sure to select the entire Art object.

Adding charts to your document is straightforward but requires Microsoft Excel for entering data. Choose Chart from the Insert tab, pick a chart type like column or pie, and Word will open Excel where you can input your data. As you make changes in Excel, your chart in Word updates automatically. You can then close Excel and use the Chart Tools in Word to change the chart style, move, and resize the chart or apply design changes.

WordArt lets you turn text into decorative graphics, perfect for titles or banners. To create WordArt, choose WordArt from the Insert tab, type your text, and select a style. Once your WordArt appears, you can change the fill color, outline, apply effects, or adjust the word shape. Options are also available for changing letter spacing, adding borders, or warping the text into different shapes.

Throughout this process, it is helpful to try each technique yourself. As you follow these steps, open a new document and practice inserting each type of illustration. Try positioning them differently, applying text wrapping, and using the various formatting and style options to see how they affect the appearance of your document. If you do not understand something right away, feel free to experiment further or refer to online help resources. With practice, these skills will become easier, and you will be able to create richer, more engaging documents. If you have specific questions or run into problems, search for community forums or reach out for help, as there are many resources and user communities available. Take your time, be patient, and enjoy the process of exploring these new features in Word.
