New to VBA Watch This Video

I always get a buzz when I hear you say that. "It will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know to get started programming in VBA." I guess the part that is true is: "to get started" because I've been doing this for almost 29 years and I'm still learning and I have to post questions in the forums about syntax, etc. Thanks for your Tech Help videos.

I want people to feel like it's not rocket science and that they can learn enough "to get started" programming in VBA in about 20 minutes, which I think is true. I've been doing this for over 30 years too, and even I'm still learning stuff about VBA, let alone programming in general. It's a lifelong learning commitment once you decide to become a programmer. You're never done learning this stuff. :)

From the students I've talked to over the years, it's that steep barrier to entry that prevents a lot of people from getting started. They think, "well, I can't do this, I can't be a programmer." And I want them to know that it's not hard - just sit down and in about 20 minutes, I'll show you enough to at least pique your interest and let you see that it's not something that you have to be afraid of.

For me, getting started was just being able to store *.pdf's outside of the database.  When I inherited my database, *.pdf reports were stored as attachments and the db had grown to 1.5 Gb.  The 20 minute video taught me everything I needed to know to start working on the "Opening Other Programs Seminar".  Simply making controls invisible, changing colors, or basic form navigation is game-changing for a newbie.

Once we have become proficient at something, it is easy to take for granted what we have learned.  I re-learn that lesson every time I am assigned a new apprentice.
