Keyboard Typing Wrong Characters
Warren Powell

Keyboard entering incorrect character when typing. It may display as lower case, upper case, symbol or number. Does not repeat the character even though I type same key multiple times. Each typed character is different. Have only seen it begin while using Access in design mode but once it starts it affects other programs. If I close Access it does not fix it.
Have trying rebooting, updating keyboard drivers all to no avail. The on screen keyboard works correctly. Anyone have suggestions?

Do you have another keyboard you can try?

Does this only happen with Access or all programs? My understanding is Default Keyboard language layout for Microsoft Access is determined by the defalut input language set in the Windows OS.  If you haven't changed the input language Access will use the default from Windows.

Possible Causes. Incorrect Keyboard Layout/Language settings.  Num Lock or Fn Lock enabled.  Software App Conflict.  Is this happen throughout the database or only in design mode. Outdated keyboard driver. Malware/Virus. Hardware issues.  Finally reboot PC Run the Keyboard troubeshooter.  Safe mode boot.  Try a different keyboard if possible.

That sounds like an April Fool's joke I once played on some people by remapping their keyboard. Does this happen if you boot the computer clean and use other applications? In other words, does this only happen once you start Access? If so, I'd look at Access. Maybe there's some code in a particular database. Let's see if you can figure out if it's a single database or all of Access. If it's a single database file, then there's your problem right there. If it's all of Access, maybe your Office installation is corrupted. Uninstall and reinstall it (don't just update it - remove it completely).

Thanks for your comments. Have tried all these to no avail. However, this morning it stated working properly again. Then last hour while in VBA editor working on my database, it stated again. Seems to somehow be linked to Access VBA editor. Have rebooted system and had trouble getting back into the PC as the password was typing in the incorrect characters. Rebooted again and now is is function again. Weird...thanks again for the suggestions.
