Copied Queries Future Problems
Stanley Mc Keown

I had to have a drop down box on two different forms that selected a value as a criteria for the same calculated field ( for different reasons ) in a query both forms were based on. After trying a few VBA solutions I found the best way to do this was to just copy the query renaming it for the other form so that each query criteria could take it's value from the drop down box in each form which all worked as it should.
To save time I just used the same calculated field names per form. My question is " will this present future problems ? "
If they are two separate queries the calculated field addresses/names should be ultimately unique you'd think but I'm I wrong in this assumption?

Can you post a picture so we can see exactly what you're doing.

I don't think I could show you in pictures properly. I'll try to explain better.

  I have two forms
Form1 is a continuous form with fields directly from query 1. It has a combobox1 with VBA code behind a button to filter which week number I need for criteria.

The second form
Form2 is a reports menu form with combobox2 so you can pick a week number you want for the report criteria.

The Report fields are from Query2 and combobox2 on the Reports menu form.

Originally I had the report coming from Form1 but the continuous form got too cluttered with buttons hence I moved all the reports to a separate Reports menu form.

Because I copied query2 from query1 and didn't change the calculated field names will that cause problems in future.
Everything works as it should for now.

It doesn't sound like it should be an issue, but without seeing the details I cannot say that with certainty.

Depending on any future changes in your forms, queries or reports, you could have challenges that are unforeseeable based on your description.

I would encourage you to do what Rick always says, which is add good remarks to your VBA so if you do run into challenges later, you can understand the things you did today.
