Updater and Backup
Jon Nelson

I purchased Richard's updater and backup templates and set them up according to both video instructions. They are working great. My only question is how to backup my admin front-end. My admin fe is on my personal computer. The back-end is on a networked server where I placed the backup form. At 4am, it is backing up all the server files including the front-end that is placed on the server (according to the updater instructions). However, the admin fe is on my computer. I make changes to this file and then push it so the other user fe's are updated. If I put the backup form in my admin fe then won't it get pushed up to all the fe's on the next update. Because each of the fe's use the same directory c:\access on each computer, would this cause backups on the other computers if left open? I just want to save my admin fe so if I make a change that I don't later need, I can go back to an older copy. Any help is most appreciated. Thank you.

Personally, I use Google Drive for this. I just make sure to include my local C:\Database folder in that backup (in the preferences). Not only does Google Drive do a good job of keeping it backed up off-site, but it also does versioning.

I always tell people not to run their Access database from a shared database folder, and that's true. You don't want to actually share that database with other people. But if you're talking about just your development front-end copy that only you are running, that's perfectly fine to have in a folder that's backed up by Google Drive.

Then my backup routine handles the server folder at 4am.
