Auto Number

Hello,

I may have asked this in the visitor forum.

I want to have a unique record number that showns up on each form i want it to be, YYYY, mm, dd, sequential number so 2025-09-13-0001, can i get this to work in auto number with the correct format, i was thinking if not maybe have a seperate text box for the month, day and year, if i could have each box to show correctly and change as the date changes with some VBA code, i can then have the sequential number be an autonumber.

My only problem with this is that it would be hard to search for the record this way.

Any thoughts on the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks

Hi Chris, Richard did this when a file existed and he needed to rename it. One example is :FilenameOnly = EmployeeID & "-" & FilenameOnly   '2-rick.jpg. I know he also used  Format to create a unique filename. Take a look at his Imaging Seminar if you can.  John

Hi Chris, Juan is correct. Look at Richard's video on creating your own unique number. It uses the Dmax function. John

It's also important to look at AutoNumbers Are NOT For You, which says that autonumbers are meaningless to you except giving unique ID to each row.  If you need to have meaningful ID numbers, you need to create your own.
