Recommended Seminar Order

A lot of my Developer students ask me what seminars they should take after finishing the complete Developer series, and in what order. Once you've mastered the core Access curriculum (Beginner through Developer), you've got a solid foundation to build just about anything. But if you want to take your skills even further, here's the order I recommend and why.

Access Relationship Seminar
Even though relationships are covered in the core lessons, this seminar goes much deeper. You'll see how proper relational design affects performance, integrity, and scalability. I cover eight different database projects so you can see firsthand how to build rock-solid structures between your tables.

Access SQL Seminars
Once your tables are well designed, it's time to level up your query skills. The SQL Seminars (a three-part series) will teach you to write powerful SQL statements directly, giving you more flexibility than the query designer ever could. Learn SELECT statements, WHERE conditions, UNION queries, and how to run SQL directly from VBA.

Access Search Seminar
This one is a favorite. It shows you how to build advanced search forms with flexible filters, parameters, and even dynamic SQL. You'll learn to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for finding and sorting data quickly - skills that will make any database more professional.

Access Split Database Seminar
This one's essential if you plan to have multiple users or versions of your app. You'll learn how to divide your front-end and back-end properly, manage shared and private data, and even restrict sensitive tables to certain users.

Access Security Seminar
Every serious developer needs to know how to secure a database. This seminar teaches you how to control and monitor user activity, lock down forms and reports, and protect sensitive areas of your application.

Access SQL Server Online Seminar
Ready to move beyond local databases? This seminar shows you how to host your data on SQL Server and connect to it from Access or a web browser. Perfect for remote users or teams spread across multiple locations.

Access Email Seminar
One of the most practical seminars I've ever made. You'll learn how to send emails directly from your database - whether through Outlook or independently - automate messages, and manage inbound and outbound communication from within Access.

Access DateTime Seminar
Dates and times get complicated fast. This seminar covers workday calculations, holidays, timestamps, reminders, recurring events, and more. Once you know these tricks, you can handle anything time-related with ease.

Access Genealogy Seminar
A fun but challenging project that teaches how to manage complex relationships. You'll design a family tree system, track relatives, and create graphical reports - all while strengthening your relational and form-building skills. Even if you don't care about tracking genealogy, the lessons in this seminar about self-join relationships are applicable to many different types of databases.

Access Calendar Seminar
Naturally, the Calendar Seminar builds on DateTime by showing you how to generate monthly calendar reports, and create visual scheduling tools inside your database.

Access Open Programs Seminar
This one's all about integration. You'll see how to launch other applications directly from Access - open Word docs, PDFs, images, or even Google Maps to a specific address - all seamlessly connected to your database.

Access Fiscal Year Seminar
If you work with financial or business reporting, this seminar teaches how to handle fiscal year calculations, summaries, and reports. Ideal for accountants, analysts, and anyone building business apps.

Access Payables Seminar
Now you'll start building complete business systems. This one covers accounts payable management - tracking bills, payments, and vendor balances for both personal and business use.

Access Check Register Seminar
A natural follow-up to Payables. You'll build a full check register to manage checking and credit card accounts, generate reports, and track spending.

Access Time & Billing Seminar
Perfect for freelancers or service professionals. You'll create a timer to track billable hours, automatically generate monthly invoices, and even email them out with one click.

Access Work Order Seminar
A larger, more complex business database. You'll learn scheduling, job costing, invoicing, and service tracking - great for anyone running or supporting a service business.

Access Barcode Seminar
One of my biggest seminars. You'll learn to print and scan barcodes, manage product inventory, rentals, and serialized units. It's a deep dive into real-world inventory control.

Access Asset Seminar
A robust application for tracking company or personal assets. You'll learn how to group and manage items, track locations, ownership, values, and complete history logs for every change.

Access Imaging Seminar
This one focuses on storing, displaying, and managing images and other external files in Access without bloating your database. Ideal for photo catalogs, document management, or visual inventory systems.

Access Survey Seminar
A great project that connects Access to online data collection. You'll build surveys in Google Forms, import responses into Access, and create queries, forms, and reports to analyze results.

Access Mailing Label Seminar
A quick but useful utility project. You'll build a label manager that lets you create, duplicate, and print mailing labels with full control over layout and batch printing.

Access Amortization Seminar
A shorter seminar but a great one for understanding financial calculations. You'll build loan schedules, payment calculators, and aged accounts receivable reports - handy for any database dealing with money.

Access Data Encryption Seminar
After security, encryption is the next logical step. You'll learn how to scramble and protect data at the table level so unauthorized users can't read private information. It's a great way to add protection without needing a full SQL Server setup.

Access Registration Seminar
If you ever plan to distribute your databases, this one's a must. You'll learn how to protect your apps so users must register their copy with you. It's a great way to protect your intellectual property and prevent piracy.

If you've completed the Developer series, these seminars are the perfect next step to keep growing your Access skills. Each one focuses on a real-world project or advanced technique that you can apply immediately in your own databases. If you sign up for my Learning Connection membership, these seminars will automatically be sent as part of your membership after you finish the core Developer lessons. So the learning continues!

I remember the Work Order one being very feature rich.

I would move split database to number two or number three
