Template Trouble
Chris Bezant

Ages ago I created some 32-bit templates which I  have not used for a long time.
I saved a 64-bit database as a template.
I located all my old database templates in file explorer and deleted them.
When I open Access all the old templates still show at the top.
I rebooted the pc but still they persist and my new 64-bit template does not appear.
Any ideas, guys?

Are they in
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Access

Any of Sandra's suggestions work?

Hello Alex
Sorry for delay, life has been a bit full on.
I tried all of Sandra's suggestions but no luck.
The General settings mentioned do not mention templates.
Also searched the registry but her instructions did not match my registry.
To recap - I have deleted template files but they still show on the opening Access screen. If clicked it says file not found.

Can you right click on them and remove?

Left click tries too open the deleted template which of course is missing. Right click does nothing.

One thing in Sandra's instructions, part of the registry key address was omitted, I suspect by the server preventing injections but between the Microsoft\Office\\Access, between the double "\\" should be your version number, i.e. 16.0

Beyond that, you may need to delete the Office Cache at

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OfficeFileCache

on your machine, you can delete all the files in that folder and office will rebuild the cache on demand. This may clear residual templates. You may need to log out of your office account and log back in as well.

Not sure if this will resolve your issue, but it has worked for me in the past.

Thanks Donald but when I go to
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Access there is no entry for templates.
Am I doing this wrong?

Which version of Office have you installed?

Chris Sorry, the line I gave would be a storage location in the path on your hard drive. %LOCALAPPDATA%\ is a system entry that points to the applicable folder for a given user.

For my computer, it's:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OfficeFileCache

AppData is a hidden system folder, so you'll need to make sure you've made those visible in Windows File Explorer

Hello Donald
My path C:\Users\chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OfficeFileCache\0\0 contains 221 items and they all have unrecognisable names.
Here is just one of them:

Yeah, Office encodes the names of all the files there, but it's just a "cache" just like your web browser cache, only for office. It's used to make things you've used before open quicker. It is typically safe to delete all the files in the OfficeFileCache\ directory because the next time you open the files they represent, Office, whether it's Access, Excel, Word, etc., will re-cache them.

The first time or two I deleted it, out of am abundance of caution, just like working in Access, I just moved the files (i.e. backed up) to another location on my system or a thumb drive, to make sure everything still worked. I've never had any issues though, granted, have only done it a handful of times.
