Hi Richard,
Can you do a video or let me know your thoughts on the difference between Claris FileMaker vs Microsoft Access?

There's a few discussions on FileMaker that have some info.

Rich doesn't have a mac and there aren't many people who visit the forum who have used it.

Are you planning on trying it?

I have windows but just recently heard of it and I thought it was a more modern version of access. I love access just wasn't sure if its something worth looking into. I'd like to eventually figure out how to get it to work with mobile apps

I used to be an enthusiastic FM user.  It's UI is very pretty and its' very easy to make simple databases. But Access is far superior in 2 ways.  Once you start getting sophisticated in FM and want to connect multiple tables back to a few core tables like contact names and addresses, projects and documents, you have to make multiple instances of the same table with different names.  And the only way you can manage them is in the relationships table which, even when built systematically, gets incredibly complicated and knowing which instance to connect to when building a script is a real problem.

Secondly, you can't make ad hoc connections between 2 tables in a query.  There is no equivalent to the amazing SQL-based query builder which Access manages beautifully.

Thirdly, the UI is not separate from the database so , if you have more than 1 database, every time you update 1, you have to copy it with empty tables and re-import all the data for each other database.

Fourthly, if you want to have multiple users, the lowest possible fee to Claris is $16 per month per user.  Not much room to add your own fee.  There is no substitute for Access under the tutelage of Richard Rosst and team

Richard, I don't see a way to edit the typos :-(
