Query Question
David Clement

Good morning Richard,
I don't know if this issue has been covered or not, and if it has, please let me know where to find a fix.

I have noticed in my Queries that I have made, this issue will often happen and I don't know why.

The Query after being made runs and works just fine, so I think, cool, it works!

Theu Query may only have 2 or 3 fields in it, so rather than see the enite width of the Query and all those empty fields, I resize the Query to onlt show the fields that are acutually being used.

After doing that that, I reopen the Query only to find that data is now gone. The CustomerQ file name is still there, but the data is gone. Access will say, please enter a vaild field name.

I then have to rebuild the Query and all is good.
It appears to only happen AFTER resizing said Query.

What is going on?

Thank you.

Sorry about the mis spelling.

David unfortunately, Access does not save the layout of the query in design mode. It will reset it every time you open it. Having said that, queries are to be used and not seen so it is just a minor inconvenience.

David Sami, as usual is correct, the query itself won't save the layout. However, I do often like to be able to see my raw queries when working on a database project since I have a large monitor, I like to be able to position them where I want at the size I want, just like forms. That is the key to keeping your layout.

While they are not popular or recommended for end users, you can create a simple form (you don't even need to do any formatting as it will look like a table/query datasheet). Change the default view to "Datasheet".

If you want the fields to be listed in a certain order, just set the tab order property of the fields in the order you want them left to right. Any fields that show up you don't want to see, you can either hide in datasheet view, or drag them to the form header/footer since datasheets don't display those. Then, you can usually save that form layout and it will open the same way every time.

This thread is now CLOSED. If you wish to comment, start a NEW discussion in Access Forum.
