Learning Question and Not Fixing a Mistake
Lee Shastid

I created some buttons such as search, clear and so on with the wizard using macros. My question is if I go back and redo those buttons using code instead of macros will I mess anything else up in the background that I am not aware of somewhere?

As Rick always says... Make a copy of your database before making changes.

Most of the "Macros" are just code displayed in a different way... similar to how query's are SQL, even if you use the builder.

Every bit of my database building is using Code.  I don't know of anything that a macro will do that code won't do.  (I'm sure someone will come up with an example)

Once you start using Code, you'll find your database can do much more than you thought.

Here is Rick's Intro to VBA which will help.

Thank you. I have watched the video several times. Since I can write simple codes I was just going to redo my buttons. Just didn’t know if it would harm something else.

Well, like Raymond said, make a backup copy of your database and just experiment and see. Try one little thing, and if that works, save that as another backup, and then try something else step by step.

Like Rick said that I said that Rick said.... make a copy of your database before making changes.  LOL   :)

Some of the most valuable knowledge, IMO, comes from breaking things and learning how to fix them and/or finding other ways to do the same thing. Gives you more tools for your programming workshop.

I totally plan on doing the backup. Well Donald I am good at breaking things for sure when it comes to access. So Standby....LOL....so it sounds like something will go wrong...

Lee one thing Richard is always telling us is how important backing up is and when in doubt check out the Tech Videos. I practically live off the Tech Videos myself because I am prone to mistakes as the guys here know. Check out this link to the Tech Videos about Backup.

Yes I do back up. I just didn’t know if I want to do would mess anything up in the background. Done area that I am lot familiar with and maybe not see it obviously happening if it did.

The worst part is when you break something but you don't realize you break something. Like you make a small change in one bit of code or a query, and it seems like it runs fine, but then a week later you realize that that accidentally broke something else that you thought was unrelated but really is related. Then you got to go and try to figure all that out, because it's not just a simple restore from a previous backup, because you've done a ton of extra stuff since then. That's why I try not to make any design changes a day or two before I go on a vacation lol.

At least I know it’s not just me.

Well I found an idea and tried it and it seems to work. Now after I explain what I did Richard will probably say I dont like using it for some reason.....LOL.....I went to Design View/Form Design/Tools/Convert from Macros to Visual Basic. It changed all of my command buttons at once instead of writing the code for each one.
