I have three-minute (or less) phone calls all the time. Some unsolicited sales call comes in, I answer, hear the click meaning it's now been passed to an "agent", and then I wait to say anything. About ten seconds after their spiel, I then respond with some nonsense in a language other than theirs. Meanwhile, I'm looking at some VBA code that has 98% of my attention. I've seen a steady decline in the number of unsolicited calls I get.

One fanciful friend kept a friendly sounding female sales agent on the phone for two hours chatting while he painted two bedrooms. Every time she tried to beg off, he would ask, "just one more question".

I used to mess with scammers and spammers by replying or engaging with them, but that just leads to more spam.

My favorite tactic now is bots for customer service that provide no way to get to a person for help. Especially if they use WhatsApp. While I'm away from my desk for any period, they get a recording of my most annoying, heavy-metal songs. So far, up to 2.5 hours' worth in just one recording.
