Francois, you are correct. If all you want to do is SEE the month name, then what you are suggesting is perfectly valid. My method actually sets the value of the cell equal to "April", for example. This is important if you want to do anything with that value, such as include it in a statement like "you were born in April" or use that value in a Mail Merge. I should have made this intent clear in my tutorial, but thank you for bringing it up.
For everyone else, what Francois is suggesting is to just right-click on the cell and go to Format Cells. Then click on the Number tab, and under Category select Custom. In the Type box, type in "MMMM" without the quotes. That will make the cell display just the month name. The actual entire DATE, however, is still the value of the cell.
