This is the reason I have taken your courses.  I am one of two admin of the Ewing Family Assc Y DNA project and I am obsessed with genealogy.

I need a way of tracking ICW, MKDA, my matches surnames when the CA isnt  identified.

Not so much about tree graphics as there are tons of avail Prog/Apps To do that.

It is more in line with Genome Mate Pro, which is a DB with bells and whistles, too many and not enough,

I'm not even sure what some of those terms are. So if you want to provide me with some links so I can educate myself to what these things are, I'd be happy to take a look. I wasn't planning on getting into genetics tracking, but that seems to be a popular subject nowadays so it might be worth looking into. This was supposed to be a small project for me and it ended up blowing up into something a lot more complex than I had initially planned. LOL. I'm looking at Genome Mate Pro's web site right now.

Yeah I looked over their program. That chromosome mapping stuff is over my head. I've never done anything like that before and I know very little about it. So if there are enough other people interested, I'll learn it. But for THIS database, as of right now, I can't justify adding it. Possibly in a future upgrade.

Richard, Yes the GMPro is very chromosome mapping centeric, and that is why I have begun building my own "DNA Matches" db.

It is the middle lane, between your genealogy (tree) and GMP's mapping.  But a large chunk (chunk 1) of my db is persons, marriages, families relationship [my guess is very similar to your developing db] , the 2nd chunk is who shares DNA with me and who do we share with (ICW) and who is our CA (common ancestor) and who is the MDKA (most distant known ancestor).

So it you and I were 1st cousins, our common ancestor would be our grandparents (either maternal or paternal),  and we may know thier lineage back to our GGGGGGGGF John b 1620 (Most distant known ancestor).  So chunk two uses chunk 1

And if you and I share DNA with Sally in New Jersey and we discover that our CA is John b (the CA and MDKA are the same person) and Sally is one of our ICWs.  I also find Fred from Australia, who share DNA with me but not you, he is a ICW with me but not you

That's all way cool stuff, but I think at this point it's beyond the scope of what I'm building. Mine is more of a personal database to track your own family lineage. Sounds like you're talking about a massive online database that has millions, if not billions of data sets in it. I just answered a post from Gary where I talk about one of my future planned upgrades is to map all of the relationships between people. I suppose it would be possible using the data in the system to pick two people and calculate their MDKA. That wouldn't be too hard to do. Even showing CAs wouldn't be difficult. The DNA stuff is all new to me though. I've always been interested in it, but never did it myself.

My thinking is that  only   a few tables would need to be added to your DB to achieve an objective of keeping track of  DNA matches & ICW and how they are related if known.

That may very well be true. Do you know of any online resources where I could go to learn about this stuff? It does interest me on a personal level. I'm very much into all kinds of science - not just computers. I love astronomy, physics, biology, etc.
