Passing a string to the parent

Hello,
I'd very much appreciate if you could advise about how may I transfer a string to the parent field, instead of the numeric value. I've tried very much, however I cannot succeed to any results. Best, Despina

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by transferring a string to the parent field. Are you trying to use a string value as the criteria?

Hello,
I use the code of update and dlookup ( I fill in the Address in OrderF and I want to update the Address of the CustomerT (a string field).
Furthermore, the variable that I have, in the place of 'State', in your example, is a Combo, the 'Combo22'.
So, I have unsuccessfully adopted your code. Do you have listed a specific lesson, or something relevant, for updating fields that are string, and not numeric?
Thank you very much.

First, don't leave your combo as "Combo22." Give it a good name. What do you call them in Greece? Provinces? Now, what is the BOUND COLUMN in your combo box? Is it a string value or an ID?

For example, I could make my State combo a value list combo and have just a list of string values:

"NY";"PA";"FL";

Or I could make it a list of IDs with State strings:

1;"NY";2;"PA";3;"FL";

Or I could bind the combo box to a table and make it a properly relational combo box where the first column would be the ID and the second column would be the string.

In any case, the way you would use DLookup is the SAME. You just have to set the combo box to the right value.

It seems that the solution with the relational combo box fits best to my problem. I will use also the CustomerID from the CustomerT and the Address (string) from the CustomerID in to a Combo box.
Thank you very much!
