Copying data
Thomas Corbett

I have a problem. I have a form with fields from two different tables brought together on the form by a Query Builder. I am trying to copy data from one field to other using a double click. If both fields were from the same table it would be easy, field1 = field2 however I am having trouble as this is not working and I believe its because field1 is from one table and field2 from another. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks

Check your control sources are right and the field names match. Or make sure you use the field names in field1=field2.

I used me.field1 and me.field2 and then dropped the me. after to make sure the names were correct. Not sure what you mean about the control source. Feild1 is from one table and field2 from another brought together by a Query Builder.

Control sources aren't even relevant I guess, it should be able to change it anyways unless it's an autonumber. Are the button and both of these fields on the same form or are there subforms involved?

There is no button. I am using a double click on field2 to copy data to field1. They are both on the same form.

Do you get an error or what happens when you try to fire the event? I just tested this to be sure and it works fine.

Does it do nothing? I just tested some more and if the field types are not the same, trying to copy a number field into a short text field for instance. It will not work. You will need to convert it to the proper type like Field1 = CSTR(Field2) to have it work.

As I've talked about in several of my videos, you cannot rely on being able to edit the values in MULTIPLE tables in a joined query. Sometimes it works with simple joins, but even then USUALLY you can only edit the values in ONE table. In your case, you're probably better off using a form with a subform, even if it's only a one-to-one relationship.

Tom, why does the information need to exist twice?

Can you not do a Form with a SubForm?

Alex, I have a table that contains the customers information including products. In the second table I am storing as the products get tested. I am using a double click to bring the data from the customers table into a field of the second table. This works fine if the products are with the second table but that is not they way I need this to work.

Thanks Alex / Richard

Let's go through step by step
Can you manually type in the data in field 2?
Can you manually copy the data to the field in question?
