Compile Error

I am in Open Other Programs Seminar, Lesson 3  at 6:34.
I have followed Ricks instructions.  When I attempt to open the attachment, I get the following error message:

The code in this project must be updated for use on 64-bit systems.  Please review and update Declare statements and then mark them with the PtrSafe attribute.

I don't know how to do this.  Can you advice please so that I can move on in this lesson?

Thank you.

Alex:  Thank you for your prompt response.

I am just learning as best I can.  I am finding the lessons challenging, but have been successful to date.

I do NOT understand the documents you sent me.  I need a simple step by step instruction on how I can fix this and move forward.

Can you please forward this to Rick for his response?

Thank you.

Hi Carol. I've got a TechHelp video coming up on this real soon, AND I'm putting together 64-bit versions of these databases. Hang in there. Almost ready.

Thank you Rick for your very prompt reply.

By "real soon" are you talking days, weeks, months??

What can I do so I will know WHEN the video will be ready?

I'm going to try to have the 64-bit version of the database ready today. The video, a day or two. It's literally just a matter of putting "PtrSafe" in the right place. That's it. :)

OK, I've updated the database in the student folder. It was literally a matter of adding one word to one line of code.

Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" _

had to be changed to:

Declare PtrSafe Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" _

Why Microsoft didn't just make Access handle this problem itself, I'm not entirely sure, but it's fixed. :)
