Dealing with Attachments

In the SQL Server seminar do you cover how to deal with attachments? Currently I have many files stored on a shared folder on the network which users can click a button to open lets say a scanned application of a customer, how do I do this with the backend hosted online?

I do not cover this, but it's a good question. For something like this, I would set up a shared cloud drive. Personally I like Google Drive. You can install the Backup and Sync software and map everyone a drive letter for shared files. I show how to do this in my New PC Setup video.

You could host them on IIS but secure them somehow

It's funny to see this conversation, I have plans to try and set up IIS , I followed the SQL instructions and moved my database to the network.  I have set up folders on the same drive as the network just for links to pictures. this may be the wrong way to do things, but I cant hit the ball if I don't swing the bat... the IIS will be the part where I will follow the ASP class and try to set up my 1st web page and add to the data on the SQL server.  So Richard your words of wisdom will be followed pass me your knowledge. Alex love the web page for the Genealogy way above my skills but give me time just as I figure all this out we may have computers that we just talk to them and they do the programing.  Right now I feel like Scotty picking up the mouse and saying "Computer"

Yeah, you could FTP them up to a secure folder. I've done that before. Then anyone can view them with a URL.

It's on the list for a Developer class. As soon as I finish the File I/O in Dev 31. Coming very soon.

I also have this question. I signed up for Google Drive. How can Multiple users store and retrieve attachments to the Google Drive. In my database I crate Receipts (documents) that need to be stored in the Google Drive and retrieved by all customers to be sent as attachments to emails.  Google drive morrows locally as a G: drive in the Admin Desktop but how can other users access the Attachments using DBA?  Seminar Material...

I have been Following a thread about how to store Files to be used as attachments.
To complete your course on transferring to SQL Server I believe we need instruction on how to store and retrieve files to be used as attachments to emails in the Front End (Not Links)
In my Database I have been using a Local NAS as a File Server successfully. Everyone can write and read from it programmatically to the NAS.
Per your Suggestion I opened an account in Google Drive. I do not know how users can save and retrieve files programmatically.

There has to be a way to access files in an internet location using the proper permissions and Language as with the SQL server
With out this I can not Migrate to the SQL server.
The attachment part is Key.
Please Help.
