Hi all,

I'm a newcomer to the Gold Level. I came to these videos maybe 20% to learn new stuff but 80% for refresher. I've been programming Access for almost 20 years so I know a lot but want to take things to the next level. I thought of signing up for courses but that might not be feasible because I'll know 80-90% of the content already and the juicy stuff is scattered throughout 10-20 different courses.

Right now I'm trying to find a way to just browse through the videos and extended cuts, and take a look through the code vault and watch things as they catch my attention. I'm an intermediate-to-advanced Access user, thus not at the point any more where I would go through anything in a linear form without being totally bored, even with Richard's enthusiasm and humor. :)

I can't find a single link to the code vault or categorized list of videos. I think that might be very helpful.

Also, I notice there are ASP lessons here too. If there were ever a set of lessons on ASP.NET I would sign up for those in a heartbeat since I'd like to start going in the web-based direction while filling in the gaps in my Access skills.

Oh one more thing - how does one become an Access MVP?

The search box is your friend.  Top menu line.

TechHelp - Top menu line - Click on Video Directory.
Broken down by Access, Excel, etc.  Once you are there they are listed in reverse order by release date.
If you click on "Title" you'll get a full list on one page sorted by video title alphabetically.

Code Vault
All the way at the bottom of the page under the Info section.

While you're at the bottom take a look at the Website Tour under Help and Access Index under the Learn section.  Many of the items listed are also 'key words' for TechHelp videos.

Access MVP
According to the mvp.microsoft.com site:
"In order to apply for the MVP Award, a Microsoft Full Time Employee (FTE) or currently active Microsoft MVP must submit a recommendation for award consideration on your behalf."
Based in part on:
      Contributing to Projects
      Helping Others
      Creating Content

The TechHelp videos aren't really categorized because they're pretty random. It's whatever I feel like doing that day - whatever questions that have been sent in to me that strike my fancy. LOL. The "regular" lessons follow a more logical progression.

Personally, I still recommend learning ASP before ASP.NET. It's a much simpler language, still fully supported by IIS, a whole lot easier to learn than ASP.NET, and most of the code is compatible with VBA (and Access). My whole site runs on classic ASP. I have no plans to upgrade.

Becoming an MVP is mostly about how much you contribute to helping others. Back when I was made MVP, I used to spend a LOT of time on other sites, Forums, etc. answering questions about Access & Excel. I was a regular on About.com, AllExpert.com, and more. I received the award 2 years in a row, but then due to some personal reasons (including health issues) I didn't have the time to keep up with it. They want to see your contributions every year, and I didn't do much for a few years there. Now that I am back and active in the community, I pretty much stick to running my own site and my YouTube channel. I put a lot of free content out there, so I still do my part to help others.
