Access Database date reminders
Aldina

16 years ago
I knew about the following answer however; I am wondering if it is possible to set up a reminder eg. an alert message or email reminding me of the deadlines coming up.

Answer
Sure. I'd just build a query that shows all patients with exams dates approaching in the next 30 days. Make the criteria for the ExamDate in your query something like:

<=Date-330

That will show you a list of all ExamDates that are OLDER than 330 days ago (about 11 months). Get it?

Answer from Richard Rost:

Yes, it's possible, but it's going to involve some programming. For example, you could program something into a startup form so that when you start the database, it performs a lookup to see if any records match your criteria (I'll include a tutorial for DLOOKUP below).

You could have the database email you, but then it would have to be running all of the time, and you'd have to know how to program a Timer event AND learn how to interface with Outlook to send email. Sure, it's possible. I cover this in my ADVANCED Access programming tutorials, but it's not really something I could explain here (it would take too long).

That's why I suggested a query. You could just click one button and see all of the items that need attention.

Here's that DLOOKUP tutorial. You could use this function to figure out if any of your records match your criteria, then pop up a MSGBOX to notify the user:

You can use the DLOOKUP function to look up a specific value from a table or query.

Please see the following FREE video tutorial on my web site for step-by-step instructions on how to use DLOOKUP:
