Relational Combo Boxes
Sheryl Mulder

In creating a form from a table that has a foreign key from another table to create the relationship, I know how to create a combo box and link the field I want with the foreign key ID. Is it possible to do this more than once within the same form? Creating several different combo boxes and associating each different field to the foreign key ID?

Do you mean set the ControlSource for each Combo Box to the same ID?
If you update the value in one Combo Box the value in all the others will change too.

I am not sure if I am using the correct terminology but may be if I give an example, I can be clear. Let's say I have a Table A that has several fields in it and Table B that has other data elements in it. I want to create a form for data entry that uses elements from both tables. So in Table A, I list the ID field from Table B into it as a foreign key number. I then create the form using Table A as the form property. I want to create combo box 1, 2, 3 with separate data fields in each that come from Table B. For each of the3 three combo boxes, I associate each of their different fields with the Table B ID which is a foreign key. Am I able to use the foreign key from Table B, embedded into Table A, as a foreign key for each of the 3 separate combo box fields as what to associate those fields with?

Could you give us a simple "real world" example?  Even better, maybe make a mock-up of what you are trying to do in say Excel.  Then take a snapshot and post it as an image.  The link to post an image is in your original post.
Try and be specific.  The descriptions you are using are pretty vague and it's not real clear what you want to accomplish.

Sheryl, yeah, I agree with what Scott says. It's hard to picture Table A, Table B, etc. Can you relate this to something like customers and orders that everyone will understand? See Context.

Using the example in Access Expert 1 course and #04 Relational Combo boxes. To create the form, you used the Contact Table as the form property source. In the Contact Table was the Customer ID field (as a foreign key) as one of the fields. In developing your Contact Form, you set up the combo box fields of First Name, Last Name, Company Name and associated those values in the form with the Customer ID field. So when opening your  Contact Form and selecting the customer box, it displayed all 3 of the fields.
What if you wanted to create 2 separate combo boxes in your Contact Form? One combo box to select the patient's first and last name and a different combo box to select company name? Could you associate each one of these with the same Customer ID field?

You could, sure. You can have multiple combo boxes BOUND TO the same field. One could display peoples' names, and the other could display company names. You can set the Control Source of both combo boxes to the same table field (CustomerID) and then select from either box to set the value. This would actually make an interesting TechHelp video. :)

Thanks, it would because I did not see it discussed in the courses I have taken from you so far. I also really appreciate learning more about setting up databases, queries, and forms with time fields. I work as a Stroke Coordinator in a hospital and need to collect a lot of metrics using door time (arrival time) and time certain care aspects are started or completed. The data range is within a 24 hour period only. THen I have to group results for metrics for monthly percentage acheivements or medians. Some of my queries do not work when an arrival time is 10pm one day and the start time of care is 1 am the next day. Would love to know more about that. Thank you.
