Issue with Runtime Error 3008
James Cox

I am having a strange issue with the Holiday Greeting Card video lesson shown on the YouTube channel. When I press the "Mark as Sent" button that is located on the Customer List Form in the form footer, the run-time error below displays.

Run-time error '3008':

The table 'CustomerT is already opened excusively by another user, or it is already open through the user interface cannot be manipulated programmatically.

It errors out at query "MarkCardSentQ" code snippet below.

Private Sub MarkSentBtn_Click()

    DoCmd.SetWarnings False
    Me.Refresh
    DoCmd.OpenQuery "MarkCardSentQ"
    DoCmd.OpenQuery "MarkCardSentContactQ"
    Me.Requery
    Beep
    DoCmd.SetWarnings True

End Sub

I haven't changed any settings in Access other than what is mentioned in the video lesson. It seems that I am having a "Brain Fog" issue with trying fix what I have broken. I have gone through this video 2 to 3 times to see if I have missed something but I don't see it. I downloaded the free version to compare and it worked with no issues.

If I close the Customer List Form and execute the MarkCardSentQ query by itself it works. I guess the Customer List Form defaults to Exclusive Mode or something and prevents the query from executing. It should work but it doesn't work.

Any assistance in showing me what I need to look at in the database is most appreciated.:)

Check the Record Locks property of the Form (under the Data tab). Ensure it is not set to All Records.

Kevin,
Followed your suggestion and the Record Locks under the Data tab for the Form was set to Edited Record and Not All Records. I even tried No Locks just for kicks as well with same run-time error. Thanks for replying. I'll keep looking. Happy Holidays!!

That Refresh command should deal with the record being opened. Sounds like a Gremlin somewhere. Run down the Troubleshooter.

Here is what I have tried so far. I created a blank database and copied over the tables, queries, and report. No issues with copying everything over to the blank database. Double checked contents of copied items and they appear ok. Unfortunately, the run-time 3008 error showed up again. Just to make sure, I compiled the code for errors and it came out clean. No reason it shouldn't be anyway as far as I could tell. I did try and copy as a test, the two buttons (Print Xmas Label and Mark as Sent) from the Customer List Form to the Main Menu Form. The code associated with the buttons worked like a charm. The Record Source for the Main Menu Form is blank and not associated with any content that could conflict with execution of code.

I have viewed the Troubleshooting video and completed most everything associated with the checklist except for re-installing Office Pro Plus 2021 or Windows 10 Pro. To sum up, it's either the db or my system overall. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks.

To add some more info since I ran out of space, I intend to try the database on another system when I get a chance and that way I should know if it's my system or not. Thanks again.

Yeah... That's crazy. Another PC would be my next try... How about a Windows Update..  Office Update?

Currently, I have all Windows OS Updates as well as Office Updates. I was able to test the problem database on a Microsoft Surface Pro 8 with Office 2019 and it displayed the same error. So I believe it is my version of Office of my PC that has the issue possibly. I plan to do a full re-install after the holidays. Thanks for the help regardless. Just my luck. Happy Holidays!!!

Just a quick update to my last post. I installed the same version of Office Pro Plus 2021 on the Surface pro 8 just like the version I have on my desktop pc. I created the database per the Holiday Card video shown on Richard's YouTube channel. Everything worked!! I then copied it to my pc to test as well and it worked. So, I'll be re-installing the MS Office software on my desktop pc and go from there and hopefully I won't see any Run-Time Error 3008's any time soon. Last post. Thanks.

Glad you figured it out.

Richard and Everyone,

I found that my copy of the Free TechHelp Templeate v1.8 was the source of the Run-Time Error 3008 and not my installation of MS Office. A total novice mistake on my part. I should have tried another good copy of the template to check off the list. I made it more complicated than it was in the long run. I **REALLY** feel bad but I wanted to be honest and let everyone know what I found and corrected. Absolutely last post!! Thanks.
