Scan Photo Automatically

Is there a way to have a scan button on my form that will scan medical ids and store it in a back end directly. I saw the imaging tech help and would like to incorporate that in my database. I want to have my staff hit the scan and have it all done automatically to that patients form. Is there a way?

Alex Files from a Scanner or Multiple files and auto name them as it makes the file and saves to the back end director.

If you're talking about an imaging scanner, then no, Access cannot directly control those kinds of devices without a 3rd-party plug-in. I don't have one that I recommend. Sorry.

Schley, how do you auto name files and store them in a folder?

Rajashree see Richard's reply above.

Regarding Schley's reply - it depends on your scanner - and the control software that comes with it.
Most scanners have the ability to specify a specific folder to put the files after they are scanned.  Also the file type and default name it produces.

Working with individual brands of products - scanners, readers, printers, cameras, etc. is beyond the scope of this forum.  You would need to take a look at the documentation of your equipment and figure out if it has the capability of interacting with other software.

Once you have figured out if there is the ability to interact with other software that would definitely be in the Developer level category.   You would need much more programming knowledge than you currently have obtained.

Yeah, most scanners can just batch scan a bunch of files and drop them in whatever folder you specify. Once they are there, you can assign them to individual records in your database. As far as Access controlling a scanner to grab a single image... nope. Like I said, not without 3rd party software.
