Developer 8 Unload Bug
Allan McConnell

In Access Developer 8 Richard highlights a bug which occurs after a user is prompted to fix an over payment when the user tries to close a form when an over payment has occurred.

A message box is fired off under the "On Unload" and the user cancels out and has to fix the error before they can close the form. The bug does not actually affect the user or the processing of the payments, but affects anyone who is a developer or wants to modify the form. (PaymentF)

As Richard pointed out there does not appear to be a fix for this and I also googled it and could not find anything.

For me I like a challenge so, I moved the code from the "On Unload" to "After Update" which works well and deleted the code from "On Unload".

To prevent the form from being closed by the user without first fixing the overpayment, I removed the built in Close Button and replaced it with an "On Click" button, which runs the check code again and will throw up a message if the overpayment is not fixed, Else it will allow the form to be closed.

Trouble is everything works well accept that the calculations are jumbled and I will need to go through step by step to try and figure out what is happening.

Eventually the figure do line up and will allow me to exit the form.

Now without any expert help, I am hoping that there are some other persons doing the Developer course who can come up with their solution.

It was suggested from the feedback form I have submitted to mention this in the forum.

I am not particularity using the form for anything so do not need to have help, but thought it a great challenge for those who maybe doing or abut to do the course.

Personally I do not like the "On Unload" to fix a problem with my own databases and I will often use the After update.

Sorry for the long post but hopefully setting up a challenge to those who are not yet up to the same level as those of you who generously give your time and assistance and deserve all the recognition. However feel free to state that you have a fix, but please do not let on.

Yeah in the YEARS since I recorded this video, I, too, prefer to not use On Unload myself. I like your solution of making a button to close the form and putting the code in that button. I'll probably come up with a better solution the next time I re-record this lesson. LOL
