Checklists for Customers

I have built the tables for the checklists I want, as well as the list box, showing the checklist names. How am I able to complete separate checklists for different customers? For instance, I would choose the checklist to be applied to that customer on the customer form from the list box, and when items are completed on the list, it only applies to that customer? ...then if I have another customer that I apply the same checklist to, the dates are blank and I can complete them for the new customer? ..sort of a task list to be done for each customer

You need a relationship, assign a customerID to each checklist record Relationships

Jennifer correct me if I'm wrong.
I read this as for each  'customer' you would want to make sure certain things are completed.  For Instance:

New Employee:
   1. Application
   2. Insurance
   3. Liability release
   4. New employee orientation
   5. Other Stuff
Training:
   1. Cert 1
   2. Cert 2
   3. Cert 3
Exit Checklist:
   1. Keys turned in
   2. Uniform turned in
   3. Retirement paperwork complete
   4. Party planned

But for each of those items above you can have multiple people.  So you are looking at at least three tables.
One to store the PeopleT, one to store the TaskT, and one (called a junction table) to store the relationship between the two - PeopleXTaskT.  You might need more tables depending on if you have different Types of lists etc. (Above - New, Training, Exit)

That relationship is called a Many-to-Many

I don't want to overwhelm you - this could soon become like trying to drink from a fire hose.  In addition to continuing on with the courses, in order, check out the videos below.  A bit of planning up front will save you tons of time down the road.

Thank you for the information. Scott, yes... I am a Realtor, so I have different types of clients (buyer, seller, etc) and different tasks I need to do for each, depending on what stage of the process they are in. I created my checklists, and everything is working great, EXCEPT that when I mark something complete under one customer record, when I open that same checklist under another customer, those items show complete. I am going to do what you mentioned above. I think the link I am missing is the "PeopleXTaskT"

I think I am officially going mad! I have three tables 1) CustomerT, 2) ActionPlanChecklistT, 3) ActionPlanJunctionT. I also have another table with the action plan names. I used this fourth table to make a drop down box of the action plan names. I have it functioning to open the correct action plan checklist, but I cannot get it to open for specific customers. If I mark an item on the checklist complete, it will mark it complete for every customer. I have a "CustomerID" field in the three tables I made (mentioned above), and I linked the CustomerID relationships, so I can't understand why I can't get it to open and apply the checklist items to an individual customer for the action plan selected. I have watched the videos you mentioned several times, as well as several others. I also feel like I have an understanding of how the relationships work, so I am officially going nuts trying to figure out why this particular function will not work right for me. Since this function is extremely important for my business, this can make or break whether or not I will continue using Access to design my CRM database.

I hear the frustration but I want to encourage you...  Don't give up!!  You are just in pretty deep and waiting for your own "Ah Ha" moment.

The Event Enrollment video shows you a good example of the Many-To-Many that we were speaking about above.  Also relating the tables and making the related forms to display the info.  We'll probably have to take it another step forward and add in how to get the individual list tied together but baby steps.

If this is something way over your head and you have to have it now, you might consider posting the link (right click the link button in you original post and copy link) in the AccessDev.NET to ask for help and a quote.

There are several guys that are well qualified to help you out on a consulting basis.  You just have to decide how much your time is worth vs doing it yourself.

If you've gone too far down the rabbit hole, you need to take a step back, take a breath and try again. Database development has its daunting moments as i have had. I get a ".... what?" moment every few minutes seeing some of the other posts and those doubts happening. Then i remind myself i've only been learning for 8 months with no previous exposure.

Over time, you'll get better and better and it'll become natural. Stick with it!
