Data Entry Form With Multiple Fields
Joseph

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the quick response.
The database will is to be used to keep component inventory in different buildings in different cities owned by a property management company. the tables I have created include a State, city, building, Components and inspection tables.
Table info:
State
   -State
City
   - City id
   - State
   - City

Building
   - Building ID
   - City ID
   - Building Name

Components
   - Comp ID
   - Building ID
   - Comp Decription
   - Inspected (yes/no)

Inspection
  - Comp ID
  - Inspected Date
  - Inspection status (pass/fail)
  - Replacement date

I want to have the form start with a three fields for the user to select the State (combobox), then I use AfterUpdated event to get the appropriate city in the City combobox. Once the city is entered. I would like to us an auto complete to enter the Building name, if the building is not currently in the city selected, the building should be saved in the building table then the user can click on next button to open the next for or possible use tabbed forms. The next form is to enter the component information. The relationship between the components table and the Inspection table is a one-to-one and the inspection table should only be populated only if the Inspected field is yes. So once the Component form is field and the inspected field is yes the next page should be Inspected table form. Then a summary of all the data before saving into all the related tables.

Hope this gives you something to work with. Thanks again for the quick response.

Reply from Richard Rost:

If you want the user to be able to add the building if it doesn't appear in your combo box, then you're going to have to use some NOT IN LIST programming. I cover this in Access 324, lessons 6 and 7. It will require some VBA to get the record added to the table, then refresh your list.

Everything else seems pretty straightforward. You can use a subform for your inspection if you want - you can have a subform in a 1-to-1 relationship. Just turn off the navigation buttons.
