Digitally Signed PDFs

This question came to me in email, and I figured I'd share it here for ya'll. Plus I like to post things like this because if I search for it in the future, I can just direct people here. :)

I'm not going to post the entire question, because there are some tangents, but basically the user is asking if there is any way to create digitally signed PDF files from Access, or VBA in general. Here's my reply:

I've never done this before, but a quick Google search shows that there is code available to digitally sign a PDF directly from VBA, however it requires the full version of Acrobat, which I do not have, nor have any need for. Since you're the first and only person to ask me this question in the past 20 years, I don't think it would make a good tutorial for me, so I'm going to pass on it, but here's one link I found that might be able to help you: Digitally Signed PDF

The free Adobe Reader can let you sign and fill forms, move/resize signatures, draw/type signatures, etc.  The mobile version can do these too.  I don't think I could do it any better with my own programming.  So the only VBA code I would recommend is one that opens up Adobe Reader externally:

Dim r As Variant, doublequotes As String
Dim PathOfAdobeReader As String, PathOfPDFFile As String
doublequotes = """"
PathOfAdobeReader = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe"
PathOfPDFFile = "C:\My Documents\MyForm.PDF"
r = Shell(doublequotes & PathOfAdobeReader & doublequotes  & " " & doublequotes & PathOfPDFFile & doublequotes, vbNormalFocus)
