Linking Subforms
Jenny Bisset

Hi there, my name is Jenny and I am from South Africa. I am building a database for my company to control our consumable stock that is bought and issued in our workshops. We have a huge workshop with over 150 employees.
I have set up my database and tables and I am now trying to build a form with a subform for purchase orders / invoices for consumables that have been ordered, delivered and still on backorder (for part deliveries). However, in my form, the "order details" form somehow doesn't want to link to the main Order Form. So, when I add Item Details such as the Item and price and so on...it shows ALL of the items, and does not only display the specific items ordered on specific orders.
I have watched so many hours of video trying to get this right, but to no avail. I'm sure that it is just a stupid little thing...but, please tell me what I'm doing wrong!
If anyone can just give a little advice or guidance, I will be eternally grateful.
Have a lovely day ☺

Sounds like you don't have the Link Master Field / Child Field properties set correctly. For the order details subform, for example, it's OrderID. See Subforms.

Hi Richard,

I have linked my forms like you did on your form, but mine is still not working right. I feel at this point that I have to mention that I am blonde, and as a group, we tend to catch on a little bit slower...haha!
I have my "Item" field as my primary key in the "Inventory Table" and I have used that as a Lookup Combo-box in my form...would that create problems? Because, I am  now getting an error that says "You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in the Inventory Table" but the record is already there in the inventory table.
I have watched your Subforms, Invoicing, Subform in a Continuous Form, Nested Continuous Subforms and many more videos, but I still can't seem to get this right.
Do you have any advice? I'm sorry to be bothering you with this, I'm sure that you have 100's of emails and questions to answer, and this might not be the "question of the day" but if you could help, I would sincerely appreciate it.
Have a blessed day.

LoL! No worries - I watched your Invoicing video again (think I blinked the first time) - but I got it right now. Thanks! You are my new hero and I am definitely taking ALL of your classes
